Long Term Substitute Grade 1 Teacher
CREC Reggio Magnet School of the Arts (RMS) is seeking a long term substitute grade 1 teacher to cover a maternity leave. RMS is a full-day interdistrict magnet school serving students PreK-grade 5. Inspired by the Italian Reggio Emilia philosophy, the curriculum is designed to respect a child's point of view and encourage students to control the direction of their learning. Reggio educators pair high challenge with loving support as they guide students through differentiated learning experiences designed to meet the needs of all students. Essential functions include developing and administering school elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives, promoting a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, developing lesson plans and instructional materials, conducting ongoing assessment of student learning, instructing students in the principles of responsible citizenship, continuing to acquire professional knowledge, organizing and maintaining a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, encouraging parental involvement in students' education, ensuring student conduct conforms with school standards and district policies, coordinating with other elementary professional staff members, selecting and requisitioning appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment, supervising students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, and administering standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs. Additional duties include performing other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Equipment used includes standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. Travel requirements include traveling to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Knowledge, skills and abilities include knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts, knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans, knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students, ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed, ability to organize and coordinate work, ability to communicate effectively with students and parents, ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth, and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Physical and mental demands, work hazards, include working in standard office and school building environments. Qualifications profile includes CT State Certification as an Elementary Teacher, a Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment, and a Masters Degree in related area preferred. Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is a plus.
