Chaplain Resident Position
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Spiritual Care and Clinical Pastoral Education, the Chaplain Resident will function as a chaplain, providing compassionate spiritual care to patients, their families, and staff. This position offers a year-long, experiential program at Norwalk Hospital that allows a CPE Chaplain Resident to complete three consecutive units of CPE through Norwalk Hospitals ACPE CPE Program. Clinical work may take place at other hospitals in the Nuvance Health system. The CPE resident will provide spiritual care to patients, families, and hospital employees in accordance with the philosophy, mission statement, and objectives of the hospital. The Chaplain Residency Position is a one-year termed position. Responsibilities include: providing compassionate spiritual care to patients, their families, and staff, collaborating with physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and ancillary staff as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team, conducting a spiritual assessment of a patient's spiritual and emotional status and the need for spiritual care, rounding each area of assigned clinical responsibility each scheduled day, and responding to on-call requests following the schedule and procedure of the Spiritual Care Departments within Nuvance Health. The Chaplain Resident will also demonstrate the ability to actively and collegially function in relationships with peers, supervisors, and ACPE Certified Educators in the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Residency Program, fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position, and maintain and model Nuvance Health Values. The Chaplain Resident will also demonstrate regular, reliable, and predictable attendance and perform other duties as required. Education and Experience Requirements include one successfully completed unit of CPE from an ACPE Accredited CPE Center, an associate or bachelor degree from an accredited university, college, or theological school or equivalent education/certification in fields relating to chaplaincy such as meditation and mindfulness practices. Preferred requirements include a M. Div. or MA with a major focus in theology or related fields or working toward it. Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements include proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint, and easily adapts to new technology and windows-based programs. License, Registration, or Certification Requirements include affiliation with a religious or spiritual group or practice and verification of successfully completed unit of CPE. Preferred requirements include endorsement as a chaplain by one's faith group and/or the ability to obtain such endorsement or its equivalency. Working Conditions include some manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity, little or no potential for occupational risk, medium to heavy effort, and some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc. The salary range is $25.70 - $47.72 hourly.
