The New York Times is dedicated to seeking the truth and helping people understand the world through independent journalism. We are expanding our video journalism and are looking for a temporary Video Journalist to bring our audio portfolio to mobile, social, and digital audiences. You will be part of a team developing new podcast video shows and new video formats for existing franchises like The Daily. Your responsibilities will include story planning, production assistance, and publishing full-length video podcast episodes and short social video clips. You have experience in all aspects and stages of video production, bringing strong organizational and communication skills to the process. You should have a well-developed news sense and thoughtful story-framing skills. You'll help come up with story ideas and collaborate on research, scripting, and publishing. You will also help prepare questions and direct hosts and interview subjects. Solid camera skills, including lighting techniques in multi-camera environments, remote settings, and video editing abilities are all assets. You will work under the guidance of a Senior Producer on the Podcast Video team. You will work with reporters, editors, the audio team, and external collaborators to establish and execute on a vision for podcast video work that enhances our report. This role is for someone with a strong grasp of social video trends and who takes an innovative and adaptive approach to video formats and techniques. This is a temporary (12M) hybrid position based in New York and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance. Responsibilities: Produce Newsroom podcast videos in horizontal and vertical formats Collaborate with the newsroom audience, social, and video teams to ensure smooth production timelines and delivery, including pitching videos to our social team and writing captions Pitch and develop different forms of short-form vertical video storytelling that are journalistically powerful and visually transformative Can handle the pressure of newsroom deadlines and juggle multiple projects at any given time Must be open to experimenting with new ideas Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world. Basic Qualifications: 4+ years of multimedia storytelling, video editing, and production experience in video news journalism Excellent news judgment and ability to work with colleagues and reporters to synthesize news gathering and investigations into informative and engaging podcast video Experience creating original news videos that incorporate audio, video, still images, graphics, and text Expertise editing video with Adobe Premiere Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud Preferred Qualifications: Cinematography experience Experience working in video podcasts Interest in political news and the interview format The ability to make quick decisions under intense deadlines in a high-pressure newsroom setting Willingness to work a flexible schedule The New York Times Company is committed to being the world's best source of independent, reliable, and quality journalism.
