Quality Engineer

We are looking for a Quality Engineer to join our Corporate Quality organization here at Scotts Miracle-Gro! A Quality Engineer plays a pivotal role in driving continuous improvement and ensuring product excellence. This position is essential for implementing and enhancing quality practices across our external and internal contract manufacturing sites. The engineer will proactively identify and resolve complex quality issues, contribute to new innovation projects, and manage compliance-related tasks, leveraging data and metrics to track performance, identify trends, and make impactful, data-driven decisions. Quality Assurance: Implementing and monitoring quality assurance processes and procedures to ensure products or services meet specified quality standards. This includes contributing to new product launch quality planning and ensuring robust standards are set with R&D, Operations, and external partners Quality Control: Conducting inspections, audits, and tests to identify defects, deviations from quality standards, and areas for improvement at our contract manufacturing sites such as those producing granular, plastic, or assembly products. This includes managing vendor trending and ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of our defective product waiver processes. Problem Solving and Data Analysis: Investigating complex quality issues, identifying root causes, and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions. Analyzing detailed quality data and metrics using statistical techniques (Excel, Minitab) to track performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions, often with incomplete data that requires strong analytical judgment. Providing training and support to local quality teams or operational staff to ensure understanding and compliance with quality standards and procedures. This includes micro-training development and revising and modernizing existing Quality SOPs to be more realistic and actionable. Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as R&D, Sales, Marketing, Planning, Engineering, and Finance to improve quality standards and resolve critical issues, including Strong understanding and practical application of data analysis, including the capacity to organize, interpret, and draw insights from large data sets Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate complex technical information and collaborate cross-functionally. Demonstrated ability to be Action Oriented, taking initiative and driving tasks forward with a sense of urgency and enthusiasm Proven capability to manage situational ambiguity, effectively operating and making decisions even when information is incomplete or the path forward is unclear Auditing or a demonstrated aptitude for developing auditing expertise to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement Experience in training or a keen interest in developing and delivering quality-related training and procedures Practical manufacturing experience, preferably within process-oriented environments or with external contract manufacturing operations 2-4 years experience in operations, quality, or regulatory related experience Education: Completed Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Science Related Field Certifications: CQA, CQE, CQIA, CRE, CSQP desired, but not required The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $77,200.00 - $90,800.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.
