Accountant

The Accountant supports the financial operations of the credit union by maintaining accurate accounting records, assisting with financial reporting, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This role plays a key part in helping the credit union manage its $550 million asset portfolio with strong financial stewardship and operational excellence. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Prepare and post daily and monthly journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and investment activity. Perform monthly bank and general ledger account reconciliations; research and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and NCUA (National Credit Union Administration) regulations. Support internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries. Assist with the preparation of regulatory reports such as the 5300 Call Report. Monitor and record investment activity, loan participation, and secondary market transactions. Reconcile fixed asset, and prepaid subledgers to the general ledger monthly. Assist with budget preparation, variance analysis, and management reporting. Support the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes as needed. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affecting financial operations. Participate in projects and process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting function. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required. 13 years of accounting experience; financial institution or credit union experience preferred. Strong knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with NCUA regulations a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems; experience with Symitar, Fiserv, or similar platforms is a plus. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize tasks. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Member-service orientation and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to function as a contributing member of the credit union. Friendly, approachable, decisive with a strong display of leadership qualities and willingness to be collaborative. Acceptable background check; credit, criminal and insurance. Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements: This position requires the employee to work indoors in a typical office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations, and the ability to stand, walk stoop, kneel, crouch and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 1-25 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with arms, talk and hear.
