The Licensing Officer is responsible for cultivating and sustaining deep relationships with university faculty and staff creators and developers of innovations in the College of Engineering. Working closely with the Licensing and IP Management team and Capital and Translation team within Innovation and Commercialization, the Licensing Officer will be a trusted advisor to faculty and staff creators in the areas of technology licensing and commercialization. This role includes identifying university-owned innovations with commercial applications, evaluating the business case for these innovations, preparing non-confidential summaries for marketing purposes, supporting the development and implementation of specific marketing strategies for these innovations, and participating in negotiation of license and option agreements with new and existing partners. The ideal candidate: Will be a visionary and inspiring team member who is committed to fostering an innovative and high performing culture. Has the ability to work in a complex organization and further the goals and objectives of innovation and commercialization at The Ohio State University. Is process and metrics oriented and is committed to continuous improvement. Embraces data-driven decision-making. Acts with urgency in all stakeholder interactions. Is self-motivated, an effective verbal and written communicator, has executive presence, and demonstrates high emotional intelligence. Responsibilities include: Commercialization Strategy and Marketing: Serves as a trusted business advisor to faculty and staff creators in the areas of patenting of inventions and commercialization. Leads marketing campaigns through multiple channels including direct outreach to existing companies and to qualified startup business leaders. Faculty Outreach and IP Management: Actively engages with faculty and staff on campus to identify commercialization opportunities and foster relationships that support business development activities. Collaborates with faculty to align their innovations with market needs and industry trends, enhancing the potential for successful commercialization. Works closely with licensing staff to provide market feedback, helping to inform IP-related decision-making processes. Deal Negotiation and Licensing: Serves on licensing deal teams and actively participates in negotiation of licenses and options in collaboration with members of the Licensing team within Innovation and Commercialization. Required Qualifications: Bachelors degree 4 years of relevant experience in technology licensing, commercialization, translational research, IP management, and/or business development. Desired
Qualifications: Doctoral or Professional degree in the field of STEM; 4-8 years of relevant experience. A resume and cover letter are required to be submitted to be considered for this position. Due to U.S. export control regulations governing information, technology, and facilities accessed during the performance of work, applicants must be: (1) U.S. citizens or nationals; (2) permanent residents; (3) asylees or refugees; or (4) individuals otherwise described as "protected individuals" pursuant to Title 8 U.S. Code Section 1324b(a)(3)(b). . The offer for this position will fall within this range based on multiple factors including internal equity, unit's available budget and the selected candidate's qualifications.
