The St. Louis County Department of Transportation and Public Works seeks a well-experienced Structural Mechanic that can perform remodeling, construction, repair, preventive maintenance, and cleaning work at the skilled generalist level in an assigned area or location. The typical starting salary range is between $20.00-$24.00 hourly depending upon the candidates qualifications as well as budgetary considerations. The position is located at the Lawrence K, Roos Building 41 S. Central, Clayton, MO. The shift is 1st shift 7:00 a.m.

Perform construction, remodeling, and renovation work by demolishing walls and appurtenances, framing new walls, repairing damaged and handing new sheetrock, replacing trim, painting, roofing, hanging wall coverings, and installing shelving and drop ceilings; removing and replacing tiled and carpeted flooring; assembling casework. Perform interior and exterior maintenance and repair to facility structural systems by repairing/refinishing/painting doors, walls, ceilings, floors, trim, fixtures, furniture, and cabinetry/shelving; pointing masonry and brick; repairing stone, concrete tile surfaces. Performs such additional work, with the required abilities and under the indicated working conditions and environment, as may properly be required of a position in this job class. Equipment used: hand and power tools; pneumatic equipment; hardwoods and Formica; wood glues, stains, and finishes; sheetrock (drywall), tape, spackling, and wall paint; respirator and asbestos containment equipment; janitorial/cleaning tools; automobile, van, light truck (up to 2

tons). Working conditions: balance, bend at waist, climb or work on scaffolding, ladders, and stairs; crawl or walk on uneven surfaces; exposure to dust/dirt, fumes, and hazardous materials (including asbestos); kneel, squat, stoop, lift, push/pull, or reach above shoulder level; stand or walk for long periods; work from manlifts and platforms; work in extreme temperatures (heat/cold) and out of doors in inclement weather. Minimum Qualifications

Three years of progressively responsible experience in building construction, renovation, or construction maintenance, or as a painter or mason; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Special requirements: possession of a valid drivers license. An Asbestos Operations and Maintenance Accreditation may be required within 30 days of employment depending upon the division to which assigned. Additional Information

A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicants education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicants earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire. The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
