The Policy team advances the mission by developing and advancing equitable public policy that enhances the quality of life of all Harris County residents. This role is for an on-site Forestry Foreman. You will supervise and guide the forestry team responsible for the maintenance and removal of trees in public parks and facilities, rights-of-ways, and along roadsides. This position has significant levels of input as it pertains to personnel actions such as hiring, terminations, and pay changes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will prioritize and assign daily work assignments to operations staff. Provide reports on completed and pending work activities. Assists with the development of maintenance and upkeep programs. Assists with the development of and participates in training programs for proper and safe use of equipment and tools. You will visit work sites to ensure staff are carrying out assignments safely and effectively. Provide hands-on assistance to employees. Train employees on safe and proper use of machinery, equipment, and tools. Monitor, coach, and counsel employees on their performance. Monitor, order, re-stock, and allocate supplies and equipment. Support quality assurance programs. Participate in Parks and Recreation, and Arborist industry events, conferences, and professional development opportunities. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and precinct policies, and procedures. Support and participates in precinct-wide safety inspection programs. Prepares and submits maintenance and safety reports as needed. Reports safety concerns to the Parks Regional Manager or designee, and assists with plans to address. What you will bring to Precinct One: Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution Experience: Three (3) years of experience leading Forestry and Arboriculture teams responsible for maintaining and removing large trees in public parks and facilities, right-of-ways, and along roadways. Three (3) years of experience in the operation of commercial grade equipment and tools commonly used to maintain and remove large trees. License: Must possess a commercial drivers license (CDL) Note: Qualifying education, experience, knowledge, and skills must be documented on your job application. Position Type and Typical Hours of Work: Full-time | Regular Monday - Friday Work Environment and Physical Demands: This is a physically active position which requires exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This job operates in an outdoor environment. Exposure to various and extreme weather conditions, temperature variations, loud noises, possible dangerous chemicals, and other hazards may be encountered. Work schedules may vary and include weekends, holidays, and after-hours assignments, especially during emergencies or when responding to service tickets. Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required for special events or emergency responses (e.g., inclement weather, park safety issues).
