Job Summary

The Trades Maintenance Technician perform routine trades or craftsman duties maintaining and repairing facilities, equipment, vehicles, and their parts or surrounding grounds in direct support of a process, system or facility. Principle Duties and Responsibilities

The duties include: Construct, erect, install, and repair assorted wooden items and structures. Apply paint, varnish, stains, and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures. Evaluate and repairs roofs by applying water and weatherproofing materials, emulsified blacktops and mortar as necessary. Install, adjust, rebuild, repair, replace, and maintain a variety of locks in Tribal facilities. Make minor repairs and adjustments to plumbing, steam, water systems fixtures, electrical wiring, fixtures, doors, windows, and pumps. Perform operator-level inspections, service, and maintenance of assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles. Prepare areas undergoing repair, painting, maintenance, construction or other related activity, in collection and disposal of trash. Operate powered maintenance and construction equipment. Maintain manual or computerized service and usage logs and other records on vehicles, equipment, supported systems, supplies, and related materials. Store, handle, apply, and dispose of hazardous materials required to complete work or generated by work assignments. Cut, trim, seed and apply fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide to turf grasses, soils, trees, and ornamental shrubs. Maintain security and accountability for all tools, equipment and materials required for the performance of duties, particularly in a medical, detention, or correctional setting. Maintain and uses safety and personal protective equipment. Inspect and inventory storage containers, bulk and parts stocks and records, either manually computerized systems; the contents, quantities, levels or disposition. Monitor and adjust equipment or supported systems for proper functioning and report deficiencies to supervisors. Perform welding duties incidental to prescribed functions including the design, manufacture, repair, modification, removal, and installation of steel security doors and windows. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: Operation and maintenance of basic hand and power tools, equipment and materials encountered in area of specialization of assigned work area; Typical hazards of the assigned work-areas or encountered in the area of specialization and safety procedures of equipment required; Basic industry practices of the area of specialization, trade, craft or skill; Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn. Skills and Abilities: Perform routine trades or craftsman level duties in the area of assignment; Operate and perform operator-level maintenance of powered equipment in the area of assignment; Maintain written and (if applicable) computer-based documentation of activities; Relate to homeowners and tenants in a friendly, courteous and considerate manner; Make basic mathematical calculations at level required for assigned duties; Work outside in varying weather conditions; Follow oral and written instructions; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public; Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications; Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions. Education, Certifications and Experience Required

High School Diploma or GED preferred and two (2) years of experience performing helper, apprentice level duties in the specific skill, craft, vocation, and/or trade: and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License; This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends; Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
