Teaching Assistant
Global Community Charter School (GCCS) is a Harlem-based International Baccalaureate (IB) World School that is innovative, inquiry-based, culturally competent, and provides students with a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum that encourages critical and creative thinking. The Pre-K Assistant Teacher is primarily responsible for the "moment-by-moment" care and education of the student and supporting the lead teacher and classroom initiatives. Essential Functions
Assist the lead teacher in designing and executing a developmentally appropriate and integrated curriculum, which provides opportunities for children's meaningful exploration Understand and support the "learning through play" philosophy Assist in planning and establishing a safe environment in which children develop trusting and accepting relationships with adults and peers that foster social and emotional growth and development Meet with Lead Teacher daily to prep for the instructional facilitation of the students' learning Assist the Lead Teacher in developing, documenting, and maintaining a variety of instructional and educational hands-on activities Assist in assessing students' progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals and provide feedback to students Respond to children's needs (in the classroom, on the playground, in bathrooms) Help keep the classroom clean and organized Manage supplies and ensures orderly work areas Facilitate snacks, meals, nap times, and bathroom activities Actively participate in professional development workshops as laid out in the school and professional development calendars Model, promote, and embody the International Baccalaureate learner profile to create a cohesive school culture of academic and personal success Support the school as directed by the Principal and Assistant Principal Qualifications
At least a High School diploma, an Associate's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education preferred Must get yearly physical, immunizations, and fulfill any other DOH and DOE requirements before the first day of school Hold or working towards a valid Level 1 or higher NYS Teaching Assistant certification A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated success as a full-time pre-kindergarten or elementary classroom teacher Understanding of early childhood social, emotional, and cognitive development Demonstrated success working in a high-performing, urban school setting preferred Be a team player - a desire to work in a team-oriented environment and collaborate effectively with colleagues
