Charge Nurse, Operating Room (OR)
The Charge Nurse, Operating Room (OR) is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care provided at the facility. This role will be responsible for managing all services and nursing responsibilities during each shift by providing assistance and care for patients, supervising nursing staff, maintaining a safe working environment, and ensuring that all operational tasks are completed on time. Essential Functions: Maintain operational flow of surgical cases Assess and address physical and emotional needs of patients Collaborate with Anesthesia regarding OR operational needs and work flow Update patient medical records with services provided, health condition and response to treatments Recognize changes in patients' condition and respond appropriately Inform physicians of any changes in patients' progress, condition or medicinal needs Detect any issues that could result in injuries or other difficulties for patients or staff members Address patient complaints in a timely fashion to ensure patient satisfaction Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies Supervise surgical staff and delegate the shift's tasks and coordinate with physicians Coordinate daily administrative duties, including schedules, surgical staff assignments, and patient care Schedule staff and patients to ensure full coverage to provide safe and effective patient care Ensure proper care supplies are on hand Handle employee conflicts or concerns Mentor and train new staff and provide support and guidance to all staff members Coordinate with doctors and administrators to communicate any protocol changes to staff Coordinate services with other patient care units and maintain communication Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: High level of familiarity with safety practices and procedures Excellent leadership, organizational, written and verbal communication skills Ability to handle stress and work shifts with sound judgment and attention to detail Ability to provide guidance, instruction, and leadership to nursing and related patient care staff Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards Ability to coordinate quality assurance programs Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures Advanced knowledge and understanding of all protocols and procedures within specified care Ability to administer a wide range of critical care drugs, with knowledge of indications, contraindications, and side effects Experience with nursing care for Peri-Operative patients Ability to operate vital sign monitors Advanced assessment skills Thorough understanding of nursing diagnosis IV Therapy skills Proficient in Microsoft Office and EMR systems Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or Four (4) years of experience in lieu of education Minimum of 5 years of Peri-Operative nursing experience Minimum of 2 years supervisory nursing experience Orthopedic/Spine experience Current BLS and ACLS Current and unencumbered RN license in the State of Texas; license must remain active and unencumbered while employed Townsen Memorial Hospital is an accredited network of facilities with an emphasis on emergency care, outpatient surgery, and diagnostics and imaging.
