Job Title

The Analytical Research & Development team is seeking a talented, highly motivated candidate with experience in small molecule structure elucidation. As part of the Predictive Stability and Structure Elucidation team, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing analytical methods for the characterization of small molecules with an emphasis on mass spectrometry-based methods. The candidate will collaborate with analytical and cross-functional teams to build an understanding of process impurities and degradation pathways for small molecule APIs. The successful candidate will be expected to act as a lead scientist in their area of expertise, critically evaluate relevant scientific and regulatory advances, and integrate this knowledge into research and development programs. Candidate should possess an understanding of their core discipline and use that expertise to support early phase development of drug substance and drug product and collaborate across the global Analytical R&D organization and with cross-functional partners such as Pre-Clinical Safety (PCS), Process Chemistry, Process Engineering, Drug Product Development (DPD), Quality Assurance (QA), and CMC-Regulatory. Responsibilities: Utilize cutting-edge mass spectrometry techniques, including high-resolution MS, MS/MS, ion mobility-MS, and 2DLC-MS, to characterize small molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates, starting materials, and impurities. Identify, develop, and implement novel analytical methods for the characterization of pharmaceuticals with an emphasis on LC-MS and analytical characterization to drive discovery projects through the research and development pipeline. Be responsible for leading the structure elucidation aspects of a project while collaborating with cross-functional project teams to advance programs through the development pipeline. Support new product development with advanced method development and validations, technical transfer packages, and generation of technical data in support regulatory requirements. Be highly autonomous and productive in performing laboratory research or method development, requiring only minimal direction from or interaction with supervisor. Formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multidisciplinary data. Initiate new areas of investigation that are scientifically meaningful, reliable, and can be incorporated directly into a research and development program. Communicate and collaborate with cross-functional groups and departments. Routinely demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in research or development activities and maintain a high level of productivity in the lab. Qualifications: Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry typically with a minimum of 12 (BS), 10 (MS), or 4 (Ph.D.) years related industry experience. Extensive experience in designing mass spectrometry experiments for the characterization of small molecules, proteins, and/or oligonucleotides and a strong understanding of instrument theory and operation. Strong technical background in analytical chemistry, excellent analytical problem-solving skills. Capable of independently developing and troubleshoot analytical methods. Practical knowledge of organic structure, functional groups, chemistry, and modern spectroscopic techniques as applied to small-molecule analytical analysis. Hands-on experience with NMR spectroscopy a plus. Self-motivated, hard-working, detail-oriented individual able to work in a fast-paced team environment. Experience in the use of computerized data handling systems. High-quality written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively with interdisciplinary scientists and engineers.
