Fleet Maintenance Manager

The Fleet Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and compliance of the company's fleet of diesel trucks, trailers, and related equipment. This position manages daily departmental operations, supervises maintenance personnel, and ensures safe, cost-effective, and DOT-compliant fleet performance. The role requires effective leadership, coordination with internal departments, vendor management, and maintenance program oversight. Hands-on mechanical work is not a primary function. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Supervise, direct, and support a team of mechanics and administrative staff Schedule, coordinate, and monitor vehicle maintenance and repair activities Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including FMCSA and DOT requirements Manage maintenance records through fleet software (e.g., Fleetio), including tracking of service intervals, inspections, and repair history Collaborate with dispatch and operations teams to align vehicle availability with operational needs Oversee parts inventory, vendor relationships, and outsourced maintenance as needed Ensure repairs are completed safely and in accordance with company standards Monitor and control maintenance-related costs, drive process efficiency Conduct regular inspections and evaluations of repair quality and shop safety Assist in budgeting and cost forecasting for the department Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant shop environment Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct supervision of maintenance technicians and department administrative support staff Responsible for staff scheduling, performance management, and basic disciplinary actions in coordination with Human Resources Required Qualifications: Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a fleet or vehicle maintenance environment Working knowledge of diesel truck and trailer systems and preventive maintenance programs Familiarity with DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations as they relate to fleet operations Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills Proficiency with fleet management and maintenance tracking software Experience managing vendor relationships and inventory systems Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours/week Additional hours may be required to respond to urgent fleet issues or operational demands Compensation: Salary Range: $80,000

$92,000 annually, depending on experience Eligible for company benefits including health insurance, PTO, and retirement plans Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience with Fleetio or similar fleet management software Knowledge of liftgate, air brake, and refrigeration unit systems (if applicable) OSHA safety certification or similar training Physical Requirements: Ability to walk shop floor and inspect equipment Occasional bending, stooping, or lifting of materials (up to 25 lbs) Ability to work in or around shop environment with noise, machinery, and vehicle movement
