Grounds Technician

St. Norbert College (SNC), a nationally ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college, is seeking a Grounds Technician. This position is responsible for maintaining turf, athletic fields, annual flowers, perennial plants, shrubs, and trees. The Grounds Technician is also responsible for winter maintenance of outdoor facilities, streets, parking lots, and sidewalks. This position operates landscape/grounds maintenance equipment and fleet vehicles and participates in the snow removal on-call program. The hours are Monday - Friday, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm. Snow and ice removal may require work at night, on weekends, and on holidays during the on-call period from November 15 until April 15 each year. Specific responsibilities: Maintain all turf areas on campus, student houses, Schneider Stadium, and Nick's Field. Work includes mowing, irrigating, sodding, seeding, fertilizing, weed control, insect control, and aeration. Maintain the artificial turf on the football, baseball, and softball fields. Remove snow and ice from parking lots, sidewalks, and streets with power equipment, hand shovels, and ice melter. Participate in the on-call system for snow removal from 11/15 to 4/15 each year. Remove leaves and plant debris from campus with a power sweeper, backpack blower, and a hand rake. Maintain all trees, shrubs, perennial plants, and annual flowers on campus, student houses, Schneider Stadium, and Nick's Field. Work to include removal, planting, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, and insect control. Pick up garbage on campus, around student houses, at Schneider Stadium, and at Nick's Field. Clean the Grounds Facility and wash/wax grounds equipment. Direct the work of 2 student employees in the summer. Required minimum qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Dedicated to working in a mission-driven environment, with a profound respect for and commitment to preserving the rich traditions of Catholicism, Norbertine values, and the liberal arts. 1-2 years of grounds maintenance experience. Forklift and aerial lift certification are pluses. Valid Driver's license. Knowledge of maintenance techniques for turf, flowers, shrub, and trees. Ability to operate turf maintenance and snow removal equipment. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers. Ability to multitask, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
