Bilingual Spanish Substance Use Counselor

The Westchester Assessment and Referral Program is embedded within the Westchester County Department of Social Services (DSS), Samaritan Daytop Village's Westchester Assessment and Referral Program addresses the toxic link between child abuse/neglect and parental alcohol and drug addiction. Under general direction, the Substance Use Counselor works collaboratively with the Westchester County Department of Social Services Child Welfare Unit and their Caseworkers to determine the level of care to individuals undergoing child protective investigations, families receiving preventative services and foster care, and PINS Diversion. The Substance Use Counselor will conduct a substance use assessment, including clinical evaluations and referral to appropriate treatment and services when necessary via home visits. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village. Responsibilities

What You Will Do Provides families identified with mild to moderate substance use disorders with In-Home patient-centered counseling sessions for families identified to be at risk. Develops individualized treatment plans and discharge plans for clients receiving In-Home services. Provides comprehensive substance use disorder assessments, including supervised collection of urine specimens in the client's home, in the field, or at the Districts offices. Produces timely narrative reports of assessments. Provides expert substance use consultation to the Child Welfare Department and the court. Provides diagnostic impression of apparent substance abuse disorders, as per DMS-IVR. Matches substance-using clients with an appropriate level of care, which may include In-Home services with SDV, and facilitate each client's intake for treatment. Follow-up with treatment referrals to verify the client's initial compliance with intake appointments and provide Caseworkers with logistical information. Court testimony in which SUDS will provide and be familiar with all aspects of the client's case from recordkeeping, toxicology report summation, and any observed family dynamic. Attends court as requested by Court-ordered Subpoenas. Maintains a broad network of Substance Use Disorder service providers and sobriety supports in Westchester County. This requires bilingual Spanish speaking CASAC certification due to the large Spanish speaking population that we service. This position is for our Peekskill office. Hours are flexible and based off of how staff schedules their client visits. We also offer one day a week remote from home to ensure all documentation is up to date and coordination with our referral source is documented as well. Qualifications

Who You Will Be High School Diploma or Equivalent. Bilingual Spanish OASAS CASAC Certification. NYS Driver's License. At least one (1) year experience working with clients with substance use disorders and/or mental illness for candidates with CASAC certification and at least One-Two (1-2) years' experience for candidates with CASAC-T certification. Ability to develop, evaluate, implement, and modify a clinical treatment intervention to meet the needs of individual participants. Skilled in screening, interviewing, and motivational counseling techniques. Working knowledge of the child welfare system.
