McGehee Clinic for Animals, part of the Suveto network of hospitals, is looking for an experienced full-time Veterinary Technician to join our team! Located in Memphis, TN, McGehee Clinic for Animals is an AHAA accredited practice. We are a five-doctor practice, one of which is a member of the ABVP. We are a family-oriented clinic and have many employees that have worked here over 10 years. We have been voted Best Veterinary Clinic in Memphis over seven times in recent years. Our areas of interest include internal medicine; diagnostic imaging including digital x-ray, ultrasounds, and echo cardiograms; orthopedic surgery; laser therapy; dentistry and dental x-ray. Our Veterinary Technicians are responsible for performing basic medical, diagnostic, and laboratory procedures under the direction of a licensed veterinarian. Full-time; $16.00 -$22.00 per hour depending on credentials and experience. Essential Job Duties: Prepare exam rooms and assist in appointments with doctors. Take history from client. Perform physical assessments and record observations legibly in medical record. Educate clients on preventative healthcare recommendations and provide follow-up. Communicate any patient or client concerns to appropriate personnel. Perform venipuncture to collect blood samples, perform in house laboratory tests, and prepare all forms to be sent to outside labs, call owner with results as requested by veterinarian. Provide and monitor all nursing care as requested by veterinarian for patients admitted to hospital, including medications (all routes) and monitoring. Admit and discharge patients to hospital by following all admission and discharge protocols. Educate clients on admit/discharge. Clean and restock exam rooms, treatment areas, hospital wards and other areas as requested. Must have proficient knowledge of practice software for dispensing veterinarian approved medication, patient food, printing treatment sheets, discharge instructions, cage card labels, x ray and lab labels, recording communication with client and doctors, and others as directed by veterinarian. Must have clear understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards. Perform diagnostic imaging as requested by veterinarian. Perform tech appointments, such as pedicures, ear cleaning, anal gland expression, routine lab work, subcutaneous fluids, etc. as deemed appropriate by practice Assist doctors in medical and diagnostic procedures. Place IV catheters and begin fluid therapy when requested by veterinarian. Assist in induction and maintenance of general anesthesia with doctor present. Assist in the operating room, recovery, and post op-nursing care as requested by veterinarian. Perform client callbacks and updates as requested. Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills and Experience: Recent LVT graduates are encouraged to apply. At least 3 years of clinical veterinary hospital experience required. Excellent listening and communication skills. Must have a strong work ethic, be self-motivated, and have a positive attitude. Must be flexible and able to adapt to new situations. Ability to multitask. Ability to act as a team player. Basic veterinary medical terminology required.
