Director, Reinsurance Operations
Reporting to the Reinsurance COO, the Director, Reinsurance Operations is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and optimizing aspects of the reinsurance operations, with a particular focus on managing the ceded facultative team. This role will drive operational excellence across treaty, facultative, and captive reinsurance processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. The Director will collaborate cross-functionally with underwriting, claims, accounting, IT, and global reinsurance teams, and will be instrumental in managing outsourced resources and championing continuous process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in reinsurance operations, a proven track record of process optimization, and robust project management and delivery skills. Team Leadership & Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the ceded facultative team, ensuring high performance, engagement, and professional growth. Manage and coordinate both internal staff and outsourced resources, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and service level expectations. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Operational Oversight: Oversee the end-to-end administration of reinsurance contracts (treaty, facultative, and captives), ensuring timely and accurate cession, premium processing, and recoveries. Serve as the primary liaison for resolving complex treaty and facultative reinsurance issues, collaborating with underwriting, claims, operations, accounting, and IT. Ensure quality control and data integrity in reinsurance systems (e.g., ReinsurancePro/URS), including contract setup, coding, and documentation. Process Improvement & Best Practices: Identify areas of inefficiency, risk, or opportunity within reinsurance operations and lead initiatives to streamline workflows, enhance controls, and implement best practices. Collaborate with global teams to standardize and optimize reinsurance processes across regions. Monitor key performance indicators and outcomes, such as facultative results, to drive data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement. Project Management & Delivery: Lead and participate in strategic projects, including system enhancements, process reengineering, and regulatory compliance initiatives. Coordinate cross-functional project teams, manage timelines, and ensure successful delivery of project objectives. Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including reinsurance underwriters, brokers, auditors, and regulatory bodies. Support internal and external audits, regulatory reporting, and transactional reviews. Governance & Compliance: Maintain comprehensive control documentation, including treaty setup, reinsurer ratings, and system reconciliations. Ensure compliance with internal policies, external regulations, and industry standards. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field; advanced degree or professional designation (ARe, CPCU) preferred. 10+ years of experience in reinsurance operations, including significant exposure to facultative reinsurance and international markets. Demonstrated experience managing teams, including outsourced or offshore resources. Strong knowledge of reinsurance concepts, contract structures, and regulatory requirements. Hands-on experience with reinsurance systems (ReinsurancePro/URS/Sapiens Reinsurance Master) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Proven track record in process improvement, project management, and change management. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
