American University School of Communication (AU SOC) is looking for a creative Graphic Design Assistant with contemporary skills and understanding of current design trends to interpret our clients' needs and to design solutions with high visual impact. You will work with several digital and print formats including websites, posters, flyers, brochures, and social media. You will support and collaborate with the SOC Communication and Outreach Team. Responsibilities: Work as part of a team with copywriters, designers, digital specialists, etc. Cultivate a solid body of work. Align products with American University style guide. Understand design requirements and clients' needs/goals. Develop a timeline for project implementation and define budget constraints. Work with a wide range of media. Think creatively and develop new design concepts, graphics and layouts. Prepare initial drafts, often presenting multiple options. Amend final designs to clients' comments and gain full approval. Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work: Part-Time. Up to 10 hours/week, will vary based on design needs. Can work in our campus office (McKinley Building) or remotely, or both. Salary Range:
$17.95 per hour. Required Education and Experience: Proven graphic designing experience. Creative flair, versatility, conceptual/visual ability and originality. Strong portfolio. Ability to interact, communicate and present ideas. Up to date with industry leading software and technologies (In Design, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop etc). Highly proficient in all design aspects. Professionalism regarding time, costs and deadlines. Other Details: This position is available only to enrolled American University students.
