The County of Volusia is seeking a Senior Trades Worker-HVAC Technician for our Facility Management Department. The candidate must work at a journeyman level to do troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repair of commercial and residential heating and air conditioning equipment as well as exhaust fans with little or no supervision. Must understand building automation systems and how to remotely set and adjust temperatures, schedules, air flow, etc. Must possess excellent customer service skills. CANDIDATES PLEASE, NOTE: Candidate must be willing to respond to emergencies outside normal working hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Illustrative Duties

Diagnoses complex heating and air conditioning issues. Performs preventative maintenance on various types of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment. Repairs and replaces components of various types of HVAC equipment. Performs installation of various types and sizes of HVAC equipment. Installs, repairs and troubleshoots low voltage circuits within the HVAC equipment. Installs, repairs and troubleshoots high voltage circuits within the HVAC equipment. Adheres to blueprints and specifications when installing equipment, ensuring proper placement and functionality. Inspects and tests equipment and systems to identify potential problems and ensure they are operating efficiently. Maintains accurate records of maintenance and repairs of HVAC equipment. May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs. Attends work on a regular and consistent basis. Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances. Responds to emergency situations. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or possession of GED and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience with HVAC commercial service in maintenance and repair of heating and air conditioning equipment at a journeyman level. A comparable amount of education, training and experience may be substituted for minimum qualifications. Must possess a valid driver's license at time of hire. Must obtain a valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire and maintain thereafter. The preferred candidate, having met the minimum requirements, must possess current EPA Refrigerant Recovery and Transition Certification and will possess a HVAC Technical School diploma/degree and at least five (5) years of experience working as a service technician at a journeyman level. Also, candidates will have experience with computerized building automation systems (Direct digital Controls) and Variable Air Volume (VAV's) air distribution systems. Candidates that have HVAC North American Technician Excellence (NATE) Certification(s) is a plus! Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems; including different types of equipment, their functions, and how they interact. Knowledge of refrigeration cycles, refrigerants, and related equipment. Knowledge of electrical wiring, circuits, and components. Knowledge of building automation systems. Knowledge of mechanical systems, including tools, equipment and techniques for installation, maintenance and repair. Knowledge of safety standards and protocols when working with HVAC equipment, including handling refrigerants and working with electricity. Knowledge of all tools, meters, gauges, and test equipment required for service, installation and repair of HVAC systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics to plan installations, identify components, and ensure proper system design. Ability to diagnose problems in HVAC systems, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing to groups and individuals. Ability to respond to emergency situations. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work under stressful conditions. Ability to interact effectively with others. Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs. ADA REQUIREMENTS: Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend work orders, safety instructions, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) sheets, maps, blueprints, mechanical drawings, instructions, procedures, and memos. Ability to do simple math, email, and compose simple sentences. Ability to relay information, data and details to others. Physical Demands: Medium to heavy work. Ability to see, hear, stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, lift, push, grasp, pull, reach overhead, carry up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity (color acuity and depth perception) is necessary to operate a motorized vehicle. Environmental Demands: Work inside of buildings, outdoors, and on rooftops of buildings. May also be required to work in extreme outdoor heat, high humidity, rain, cold weather, loud environments, near chemicals, dust, and fumes. May also be required to work in areas that have poor ventilation and lighting. May be required to work in confined spaces.
