This position involves a 36-bed adult surgical unit that primarily cares for orthopedic and trauma patients. The unit also serves as a surgical COVID unit. The primary goal is to mobilize and rehabilitate patients. Two negative pressure rooms are available for patients being ruled out for tuberculosis or diagnosed with active tuberculosis or shingles. This unit accommodates medicine overflow for patients with Cystic Fibrosis. Common diagnoses include hips, knees, trauma, TBIs, laminoplasties, skin grafts, new quadriplegics, and new paraplegics. Travelers must have orthopedic trauma experience. Level I trauma center experience is preferred, but Level II trauma center experience is acceptable. The nursing model consists of 2 RNs, 1 LPN, and 1 LNA overseeing 10 patients. Responsibilities include administering medication, conducting focused assessments, and educating patients under the direction of the RN. Communication and teamwork are vital in this fast-paced environment. LNA to patient ratio is 1:12. RN patient ratios are 1:4 during the day and 1:5 at night.
