Part-Time Nurse Reports to: Clinical Director Location: Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School (O-School), Chicago, IL Compensation: $36.00-$40.00 per hour Schedule: 20-24 hours per week, flexible based on the school calendar and program needs About the O-School: The Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School is a Therapeutic Day School serving K-12 students with a range of emotional and developmental needs, including Autism, Anxiety, Mood Disorders, and more. The school enrolls up to 125 students and operates a Summer Camp and Diagnostic Center. We are accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education and follow best practices outlined by ISBE, AdvancED, and relevant mental health guidelines. Position Overview: The Part-Time Nurse plays an essential role in supporting student health and wellness in a school setting. This position works closely with the Full-Time Nurse and Medical Director to provide daily care, medication administration, and health compliance in a therapeutic educational environment. Key Responsibilities: Administer and track daily medications; provide direct care for injuries, symptoms, and chronic health needs (e.g., asthma, diabetes). Support and lead wellness and communicable disease protocols across the school community. Serve as backup to the Full-Time Nurse and assume responsibilities in their absence. Maintain accurate health records, ensure compliance with ISBE guidelines, and support medical components of IEPs. Communicate regularly with families, staff, the Medical Director, Consulting Psychiatrist, and external providers. Participate in school activities and collaborate with faculty to promote a healthy and responsive school environment. Qualifications: Registered Nurse (RN) with at least five years of pediatric or school-based experience. Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Nurse endorsement required, or documentation showing it is in process. Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic medical record platforms. Strong cultural competence and sensitivity. Skills & Traits: We're seeking someone who is flexible, detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about student health. A commitment to confidentiality, clear communication, and student-centered care is essential. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, move throughout the school, use computers, and complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training and certification.
