GNSS/Navigation Systems Engineering Section

Are you interested in the research, development, design, analysis and testing of Position Velocity Altitude and Timing (PVAT) systems like Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers and navigation hardware and software? Do you have a passion for problem solving and creative thinking while driving toward a common strategy? If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL! We are seeking an engineer or scientist who help us design, construct, maintain, and operate complex hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL or HIL) environments to test weapon systems critical to our nation's defense. You will be joining a team that designs, builds and runs HIL simulations involving GNSS receivers, integrated navigation systems, and external inputs such as Inertial Measurement Units (IMU), air data sensors, and radar altimeters. You will collaborate with a team focused on requirements development, performance evaluations, and independent verification and validation of standalone and integrated navigation hardware under challenging signal conditions. If you have previous experience working with a HIL system and a passion to lead and mentor a team of hard-working engineers, you'll be a great fit for this position! As a member of the GNSS/Navigation Systems Engineering Section you will... Collaborate with a team of engineers to design, build, and run HIL setups around unique GNSS receiver and navigation hardware systems in APL test facilities, at field test sites, and external ground test facilities. Lead or perform Systems Engineering technical tasks such as systems level analysis, trade studies, analysis of alternatives, proposals and conceptual development for current and future US military PVAT systems. Develop formal communications including Systems Engineering documents, reports, proposals, status, and results which are presented to project, program, and external sponsors as needed. Collaboratively develop PVAT test plans and roadmaps, including the identification and development of capabilities needed to evaluate PVAT systems. Qualifications You meet our qualifications for the job if you... Have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or another related technical field Have 10 or more years of RF Engineering experience. Have experience leading proposals or conducting systems studies. Are familiar with one or more of: navigation principles, inertial navigation, aided navigation, Kalman filters, GNSS receivers, or HIL testing. Have RF hardware design, test and evaluation experience. Familiar with one or more of: C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, or real-time control software architectures supporting HIL evaluations. Have the ability to travel up to 20% of the time, as needed. Are able to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. Minimum Rate $90,000 Annually Maximum Rate $230,000 Annually
