The City of Richland is looking to hire seasonal laborers in Parks & Public Facilities for the 2025 season. Weekday and weekend coverage hours will be needed. Recruiting now for those available to start working in June 2025, with the season ending in December 2025. The wage for this position is set by the IUOE Collective Bargaining Agreement, starting at Step A: $17.28. Position Salary Range: $17.28 - $19.28. General Summary

Performs manual labor in a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City parks and facilities on a seasonal (temporary) basis. Duties performed will vary depending on area of assignment as well as tasks performed during peak season activities. Subject to after hours and weekend work as needed. Minimum Qualifications

Valid driver's license. Eighteen (18) years of age or older. Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required. Desirable Qualifications

Prior experience with Parks and Facilities with the City of Richland or other similar organization. Experience working in a team environment with the ability to maintain a positive and proactive attitude. Customer service experience. Professional appearance and demeanor. Experience balancing productivity with quality. Ability to complete a task while working with minimal on-site supervision. Experience working in an outdoor environment with extreme temperatures (hot/cold) and wind. Lawn care maintenance experience including operation of hand & power tools/gas powered equipment. Essential Job Functions

Performs general maintenance and cleanup of grounds, facilities, and other assigned areas. Assists in turf placement, seeding, fertilizing, and maintenance. Performs fertilizing using a push spreader. Assists in the repair of irrigation systems and piping up to 4-inches. Prepares and maintains ball fields to game conditions. Plants flowers and small shrubs. Assists in the repair of park equipment and facilities. Assists in playground installation. Removes litter and debris. Paints over/removes graffiti, and assists with other painting assignments. Performs janitorial work. Cleans wading pools and splash pads. Tests wading pool, and adds chemicals as needed. Operates equipment to include: light trucks; small dump trucks; compactor truck; and ballfield machine. Operates mowing equipment to include: riding mowers; skag mowers; hand powered mowers; and 72" riding mowers. Operates gas powered equipment to include: backpack blower; string trimmer; edger; vacuum; sod cutter; pressure washer; weed whacker; snow blower; aerator; and small hand and power tools. Operate City vehicles and equipment in a proper and safe manner. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Environment: Typically performed in the field, which requires travel daily from site to site. The position involves work outdoors on a year-round basis and is subject to extreme weather conditions. This position requires work in construction sites, which may be dirty and strewn with construction debris. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. May be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. Employees may interact with upset public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies/procedures. Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly and punctually attend work at the office or other assigned locations. Operate a motorized vehicle, which may include inclement weather conditions. Operate standard equipment for assigned tasks. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach with arms and hands, kneel and stretch, occasionally crawling in tight spaces, as well as the ability to climb ladders and stairs, ride on platform hoists.
