Provide appropriate, efficient, and timely pre-hospital advanced and basic life support care and transportation of the sick and injured in accordance with local, state, national, and Acadian Ambulance standards of practice. EQUIPMENT:
Ambulance, stretcher, folding stretcher, scoop stretcher, long spine boards, KED, spinal immobilization equipment, radios, communication equipment, splinting devices, suction devices, bandaging materials, oxygen bottles, airway management devices, IV therapy equipment, fire extinguisher, extrication devices, mechanics tools, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, patient restraints, traction devices, and other medical equipment as needed. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This description covers essential duties common to EMT roles and may change. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities. Examine patients for signs of illness/injury and assist medical personnel. Administer life support care within licensure/certification limits and protocols. Handle patients carefully during transport. Transport patients safely to medical facilities. Transfer patient care and information to receiving personnel. Document patient condition, treatment, and non-medical information; complete forms. Conduct inventory and equipment checks regularly. Ensure ambulance and equipment are ready post-transport. Maintain knowledge of ambulance equipment and proper use. Report repairs needed to maintenance and supervisors. In absence of qualified personnel, use extrication tools and control the scene. Operate ambulance safely, following driving guidelines and FCC regulations. Attend meetings, complete station duties, and order supplies as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent. State certification as an Advanced EMT. Current CPR certification. Valid drivers license (e.g., Louisiana Class "D"). Effective communication and writing skills. Knowledge of protocols, procedures, and safety. Ability to drive large vehicles in various conditions.
INTERPERSONAL REQUIREMENTS : Maintain social, ethical, and organizational norms. Develop motivation and ownership of tasks. Sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Orientation to job requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Perform strenuous physical tasks, including lifting and moving patients and equipment, performing CPR, water rescues, and working in dangerous environments. Respond quickly to calls, access patients in difficult terrain, and work in hazardous conditions. Perform medical skills requiring fine motor control. Have correctable vision, sufficient hearing, and clear speech for effective communication and operation.
