Salary: The budgeted salary range for the position is $70,000 to $80,000. Position Summary
The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking a faculty member at or above the rank of Research Assistant Professor, rank is commensurate with experience.
Work with principal investigator to plan and execute complex research in large scale collaborative research projects in sickle cell disease-related acute and chronic organ disease. Prepare manuscripts/and abstracts for peer review journals, and national scientific conferences, must regularly publish research findings in scientific peer-reviewed journals, and provide reports to extramural agencies/sponsors.
Duties & Responsibilities
Contribute to the development of an impactful research program in sickle cell disease. Direct a productive research laboratory. Manage interdisciplinary research projects at the intersection of vascular, kidney, and red blood cell health. Establish, maintain, and perform experiments in cell culture, relevant animal models, and patient bio-samples. Teach, train, and mentor students, research staff, and post-doctoral fellows in both their research and career development. Write grant proposals to obtain extramural funding to sustain the research program. Publish research results in high-quality research articles in leading scientific journals. Present research results at academic conferences nationally. Create and maintain collaboration with scientists at this university and other institutions to advance the research program. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Engage in scholarly activities, including peer-review of scientific articles and membership of editorial board. Meet all compliance and reporting requirements. Work collegially with staff, students, trainees in the Department, Division, and the University. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Biology or related disciplines with more than 10 years of post-graduate research experience, preferably in an academic setting. Strong record of research productivity with multiple first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals. Experience in translational research, preferably in hematology, vascular biology, and nephrology field. Expertise in molecular biology, proteomics, cell biology, histopathology and immunology techniques, and data analysis. Expertise in maintaining and performing experiments in animal models. Experience in managing a research team. Experience in training and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, research staff, and post-doctoral fellows. Experience in grant writing, peer-review of scientific articles, and editorial tasks.
