nPerforms receptionist, registration, and clerical duties associated with direct and scheduled patient admissions.
nReports to: Patient Access Supervisor
nEnsures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.

nDistributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members.

nMeets with patient or patient's caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation. Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions.

nCommunicates with admitting physician's office, nursing unit staff, and/or other appropriate personnel regarding admission to exchange necessary information and determine placement.

nMaintains current knowledge of all rules and regulations governing third party admissions/registrations and pre-certification requirements

nVerifies insurance eligibility and creates estimates based on services rendered, including co-pays, deductibles and out-of-pocket amounts.

nVerifies precertification/authorization on file matches test/procedure/services being performed.

nMaintains an acceptable registration error rate & collections goal.
nMinimum Education High school diploma or equivalent - Required

nMinimum Education Two years college or medical office specialist education - Preferred

nRequired Skills Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Must be able to function appropriately in a multi-task setting. General understanding of medical terminology and medical insurance.

nRequired Skills Certifications: BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - Required within 90 days of hire, if not current upon hire.
