POSITION TITLE: School Office & Student Support Assistant This position is for 7.5 hours per day for 213 days per year. Hourly rate of $25.00
JOB SUMMARY: This is a blended role that supports school operations, nursing, and student learning. The position includes approximately one hour per day of secretary/receptionist responsibilities, including greeting visitors, answering phones and emails, and handling general clerical tasks. The remainder of the day is spent in a classroom, providing academic and behavioral support as a paraprofessional, while also assisting with student health needs, including diabetes care, under the supervision of school staff. The role requires flexibility, strong communication, discretion, and a warm, student-centered approach. Experience with diabetes or medical support in a school setting is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree in Secretarial Science, Nursing, Education, or a related field preferred Experience working with children and/or providing health-related support Familiarity with diabetes care preferred Must pass a background check REPORTS TO: Building Principal
SUPERVISES: None RESPONSIBILITIES: Administrative Support:
Provide administrative support to the Principal or other school staff as needed Assist in compiling information for budget preparation Orient substitutes and new staff to school procedures Receive and distribute mail, supplies, and registration materials Communication: Serve as liaison between the school and staff, students, families, and community members Answer phone calls, emails, and correspondence on behalf of the school Route incoming communications to appropriate personnel Provide accurate and courteous responses to inquiries Documentation & Record Keeping: Maintain computerized and manual records and databases Support the preparation of agendas, newsletters, handbooks, and other materials Process fiscal information such as purchase orders, invoices, and receipts Compile and submit biweekly payroll for support and substitute staff Track facility use and maintain building permits as needed School Operations: Greet and assist visitors, ensuring proper sign-in procedures Assist in organizing school events and meetings Support school safety and emergency procedures Maintain office and classroom supply inventory Assist in scheduling activities such as field trips, testing, meetings, and assemblies Maintain work areas and equipment Classroom and Student Health Support: Provide instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students in the classroom Work under the guidance of the classroom teacher and school staff to implement learning activities Monitor and assist with the care of a student with diabetes, following individualized care plans and communicating with the designated staff Support basic diabetes management needs (e.g., blood glucose monitoring, carbohydrate counting, food intake tracking, and communication with health personnel) Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all students Supervise students during transitions, lunch, and other daily routines Parent and Student Support: Communicate respectfully and effectively with families and students Help foster a welcoming, inclusive school environment Professional Responsibilities: Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards at all times Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and school-wide activities Demonstrate initiative, adaptability, and professionalism in all duties Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal ADHERES TO:
