. The Office of the New York State Attorney General’s (OAG) Claims Bureau in New York City is seeking an experienced trial attorney for the Torts Section. The Claims Bureau represents the state of New York and its agencies in various litigation, including unjust conviction, highway design, false arrest and imprisonment, labor law, contract, premises liability, and fleet claims involving state vehicles. We are seeking a seasoned attorney with at least seven (7) years of solid trial experience to defend the state in these tort actions, from commencement through trial, often requiring post-trial briefs. Trial experience is required; experience as an Assistant District Attorney or criminal defense attorney is preferred. The ability to manage a large caseload is essential. The position requires excellent legal research, writing, analysis, negotiation, oral advocacy, and organizational skills. Applicants must reside in (or soon plan to reside in) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York. Additionally, the Public Officers Law requires that OAG attorneys be U.S. citizens. A two-year commitment upon hire is required. The salary range for this position is $83,594 - $178,463 plus $4,000 in location pay. For more information on compensation, visit
