Director of Pre-licensure Nursing Clinical Education
JOB SUMMAR Y The Assistant Director for Simulation is a Boston-based, 12-month Contract Faculty leadership position. The University employs this individual who reports to the Director of Pre-Licensure Nursing Clinical Education (on-site and off-site). The Assistant Director is responsible for the supervision of the Simmons University School of Nursing (SON) Simulation Center. The Assistant Director provides clinical, educational, and technical expertise in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the human patient simulation initiative. Responsible for working with faculty, staff, and students to ensure the highest quality simulation learning activities are integrated and implemented across SON programs. The Assistant Director will have administrative and teaching responsibilities. Collaborating with the Pre-Licensure Nursing Program Administrator, Director of Pre-licensure Nursing Clinical Education, Simulation team, and faculty, the Assistant Director ensures academic rigor and curricular alignment of the simulation programs. The Assistant Director also collaborates with graduate nursing leadership to plan and support campus-based simulation activities across the graduate SON programs of stud y. The Assistant Director will work to ensure that the needs of current and prospective students are aligned with the overall mission of the SON, applicable standards of best practice, and the standards of the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Assistant Director will serve as an expert in simulation-based educati on. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILI TIES Mentors and supports nursing faculty in their role in the Simulation Center and collaborates with leaders in the SON to develop simulation scenarios and ensure that simulation education requirements are aligned with accreditation requirements and specific program outc omes;Works collaboratively with faculty to ensure effective progressive scaffolding of simulated learning experie nces;Maintains proficiency in existing and emerging trends in the use of simulation and virtual reality in healthcare education, including theory, design, and implementation through networking, literature review, evaluating new methods and material, and professional development opportuni ties;Monitors and maintains academic policies within the SON and specific to the simulation pro gram;Reviews, evaluates, and recommends simulation offerings in collaboration with the Dean, Associate Dean, Pre-Licensure Nursing Program Administrator, Program Directors, coordinator(s), and fac ulty;Promotes the development of interdisciplinary simulation curricula and rese arch;Collaborates with the Simulation Educator in coordinating and leading faculty mentoring and faculty development programs in simula tion;Oversees adherence to professional standards and best practices, in consultation with the Pre-Licensure Nursing Program Administrator, Director of Pre-Licensure Nursing Clinical Education, and fac ulty;In consultation with the Dean, Associate Dean, Pre-Licensure Nursing Program Administrator, and Director of Pre-Licensure Nursing Clinical Education, ensure that requirements for SON accreditation are being met;Participates in the SON accreditation and/or Board approval activi ties;Participates in the undergraduate and graduate nursing program evaluation p lans. Administrative Responsibi lities Implements a strategic plan for the Simulation Center that links to the mission, goals, and objectives of the programs and sustainability in consultation with the Dean, Associate Dean, Graduate School of Nursing Chair, Pre-Licensure Nursing Program Administrator, Director of Pre-Licensure Nursing Clinical Education, Program Directors, faculty, and staff in t he SON;In collaboration with the Dean, Associate Dean, Graduate School of Nursing Chair, Pre-Licensure Nursing Program Administrator, Director of Pre-Licensure Nursing Clinical Education, Operations Director, and Simulation team, plans for new revenue innovations using the Simulation Center;Implements policies, procedures, and protocols consistent with the mission, goals, and objectives of the Center and the SON, supports strategic decision-making, and is consistent with safe and effective oper ations;Oversees the use and operations of the Simulation Center resources, including simulation and lab space, equipment, and per sonnel;Develops staffing and scheduling models to optimize utilization of simulation assets, in collaboration with the Director of Pre-Licensure Nursing Clinical Edu cation;Analyzes processes, work operations, quality records, and other data sources to identify opportunities for improvement and challenges to achieving stated outcomes and to collaboratively develop sol utions;Works with the Dean, Associate Dean, Graduate School of Nursing Chair, Pre-Licensure Nursing Program Administrator, Director of Pre-Licensure Nursing Clinical Education, and Operations Director to identify intermediate and long-term budget needs that include forecasting staff, equipment procurement, hardware and software replacement cycles, human and other res ources;Provides leadership with technology innovation and applications with patient simulation systems and support tech nology;Implements strategic planning to secure future accreditation of the Simulation Center;Assists in recruitment, hiring, supervision, and evaluation of simulation personnel in consultation with the Dean, Associate Dean, Pre-Licensure Nursing Program Administrator, and Director of Pre-Licensure Nursing Clinical Edu cation. Management Responsibilities, Including Student -Facing:Serves as a resource to liaise with external partners, Student Affairs, Accessibility Services, Office of Advising, Career Education Center, faculty, and s tudents;Assists with resolving complex student issues;Participates in the School-wide strategic planning as well as that of the Simulation Center;Participates in the development of strong campus and community partn erships;Provides visionary leadership for the simulation program and grant-funded educational initiatives and partn erships;Participates in the recruitment and admissions of s tudents. Faculty Manage ment RoleOversees the Simulation Center (includes Skills and Health Assessment labs) faculty and staff hiring processes in collaboration with the Operations Director, Director of Pre-Licensure Nursing Clinical Education, Pre-Licensure Nursing Program Administrator, Associate Dean, Dean, HR, and the Provost’ s Office;In concert with the Director of Pre-Licensure Nursing Clinical Education, the Pre-Licensure Nursing Program Administrator, the Associate Dean, and the Dean, manages and coordinates the simulation faculty and staff review p rocesses;Works with the academic leadership team in relation to sensitive faculty dismissal processes when n ecessary;Advocates for equitable allocation of capital resources required to support faculty scholarship and student learning objectives consistent with professional standards and best p ractices;Provides leadership and promotes professional simulation development within the faculty. Teaching Respon sibilitiesThis position carries simulation teaching responsibilities. The Director will have teaching responsibilities spread throughout the 12-month contract period as determined by the Dean, based on the prog ram needs. Q UALIFICATIONS Master’s degree in Nursing and a minimum of 5 years of clinical patient experi ence required.Terminal degree (PhD, DNP, DN Sc) preferred.A demonstrated track record of success in leading and building educational project s or programs.5 years of direct job-related experience such as experience in program coordination, simulation development, virtual simulation scenario development, and/or interprofessional simulation practi ucator (CHSE).Ability to build and m roblem solver.Strong and effective communicator.Ability to motivate and build consensus among faculty.Ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues to strengthen, coordinate, integrate, and implement the goals establish ed by the SON.
