The New York City Law Department is accepting applications from admitted attorneys with at least one year of legal experience for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Ethics & Compliance Division. Attorneys with more than five years of legal experience after law school will be considered for a Senior Counsel position. The Division handles counseling and litigation-adjacent roles. Responsibilities include advising City Hall, elected officials, and Law Department and other City agency officers on topics like legal ethics, conflicts, privileges, federal grants, Medicare compliance, and outside employment. Division attorneys also conduct training, investigate whistleblower and employment disciplinary matters, and liaise with the Conflicts of Interest Board on Chapter 68 inquiries. Attorneys represent City attorneys and Assistant District Attorneys before grievance committees, review sanctions, and conduct representation interviews. Post-orientation, attorneys may choose to work remotely under two programs: a limited, irregular remote work option or a Citywide pilot allowing two set days of remote work weekly, subject to division needs and in-person obligations. Applicants should upload a combined document containing their cover letter, resume, writing sample, and three references. Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of legal experience. Preference for those with three or more years. Must be admitted and in good standing in New York State. Strong legal analysis, writing skills, and interest in ethics and compliance are desirable. Additional benefits include potential eligibility for federal student loan forgiveness programs. Residency in New York City is not required. The City promotes diversity and equal opportunity in the workplace. Salary range: $87,550.00 – $175,100.00.
