Job Description
The Assistant Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the safety and health of all personnel at the job site. This includes developing, implementing, and enforcing safety protocols and procedures in compliance with legal regulations, client, and company policies to minimize occupational hazards. The Assistant Safety Manager works closely with management and employees to foster a safety-conscious environment.
Essential Functions Instruct subcontractors to upload necessary safety documents into the system. Review and approve Job Hazard Analysis with subcontractors before the start of each day. Ensure that all permits are obtained and completed with subcontractors as required (e.g., Hot Work, Confined Space Entry). Facilitate jobsite training sessions for employees and subcontractors as needed (e.g., Toolbox Talks). Constantly monitor the jobsite for physical hazards and unsafe behaviors. Provide feedback to employees regarding safe and unsafe behaviors. Inform the project team lead of identified risks immediately. Document jobsite hazards and corrective measures as required. Respond to, investigate, and report job site incidents if/when they occur. Participate in project meetings when invited. Assist in other safety and health-related issues as they arise. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field required. Health and safety certification preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an industrial construction or mechanical installation setting as a safety officer preferred. Ability to make decisions under tight deadlines. Strong attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills. Extensive knowledge of and ability to apply OSHA safety standards. Ability to conduct training sessions effectively. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in using a personal computer and communication tools, such as email and Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook). Excellent written and verbal communication skills including preparing safety guidelines, policies, incident reports, daily logs, OSHA logs, etc. Strong supervisory and leadership capabilities. Working Environment Due to changing daily conditions on construction projects, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when outside the office, trailer, or structure, as required by safety policies and weather conditions. Must be able to work extended hours, weekends, and possibly holidays as directed by the Area Manager and project schedule to meet deadlines.
