Ohio Wesleyan University a selective, private undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and located just 20 miles north of Columbus, is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Associate Director of Alumni and Volunteer Engagement. This is a salaried, fulltime position with benefits.

Job Summary:
The Associate Director of Alumni Engagement is a strategic, data-informed professional responsible for deepening alumni engagement through regional outreach, volunteer network development, and analytics-based program planning. This role builds and supports regional alumni engagement programming, oversees recruitment, retainment and stewardship of volunteers, and helps develop a data-driven framework to track and grow meaningful alumni involvement. The Associate Director collaborates with colleagues across Advancement to develop and implement integrated alumni engagement strategies that support cultivation, donor pipeline growth, and institutional loyalty.
Key Responsibilities:
Regional Market Development and Engagement
Develops comprehensive regional engagement strategies for areas with high alumni density, targeted industries, and affinity groups that align with University priorities, maximize participation and foster meaningful connections across key geographic and demographic segments
Implements strategic community-building initiatives including regional events, networking opportunities, and localized programming that strengthen alumni connections to the University and each other
Partners with advancement colleagues to align regional engagement strategies with donor cultivation goals and integrated alumni relations objectives
Strategic Engagement & Data-Driven Planning
Use alumni data and engagement scoring models to inform strategy, segment audiences, and prioritize outreach.
Partners with advancement colleagues to create analytic systems that track how alumni interact, what they participate in, and how their engagement grows over time to guide smart expansion decisions
Analyzes behavior patterns and shares insights about market opportunities, ways to improve engagement, and strategic growth ideas
Volunteer Management and Leadership Development
Oversees comprehensive volunteer network development including recruitment, training, stewardship, and retention strategies that create sustainable leadership pipelines and meaningful engagement opportunities
Creates onboarding, training, and succession planning systems that prepare volunteers for progressive leadership roles and ensure sustainable long-term engagement
Volunteer Stewardship and Retention
Executes a volunteer stewardship and retention program that demonstrates service value through targeted recognition, feedback systems, and advancement opportunities based on satisfaction analytics and individual interests
Creates systematic evaluation processes that assess volunteer performance and program effectiveness to maximize long-term retention and institutional impact
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and a minimum of three to five (3-5) years of experience in alumni engagement, development, and/or volunteer management.
Experience developing and implementing a strategic regional engagement program, recruiting and stewarding volunteers across diverse geographic areas, and strong project management skills for coordinating multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Proven demonstrated success in creating data-driven strategies to measure and improve program effectiveness.
Candidates must be comfortable working independently while collaborating across departments, possess excellent relationship-building skills for engaging alumni at various involvement levels.
The ability to travel and to work occasionally on weekends and evenings
Serve as a positive member of the University Advancement staff contributing toward the achievement of goals related to the University Advancement Division, alumni participation, and the university community
