Position Description
Calico is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate Scientist to join our team studying cellular and organismal metabolism. The successful candidate will play a key role in investigating metabolic mechanisms underlying aging and age-related disease using state-of-the-art metabolomics techniques, in both cell-based assays and
in vivo
mouse models. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.
Responsibilities
Design, plan, and execute experiments investigating cellular and organismal metabolism Prepare metabolomics and lipidomics samples from tissues, cells, and biofluids and analyze them by LC-MS/MS Conduct mammalian tissue culture and perform standard molecular biology techniques (e.g. nucleic acid extraction, western blot, ELISA) Assist with in vivo experiments, including handling/monitoring mice, tissue collection Analyze and interpret experimental data, prepare figures for, and present at internal meetings Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records in compliance with institutional policies
Position Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related field, with 5+ years of post-Bachelor's (or 3+ post-Master's) relevant research experience in an academic or industry setting Proficiency in mammalian cell culture, gene editing techniques (CRISPR/Cas9, viral transduction) and basic molecular biology methods (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, Western blotting) Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Excellent communication and organizational skills Must be willing to work onsite five days a week
Nice To Have
Experience with metabolic assays (e.g. Seahorse analysis) and flow cytometry Comfort with data analysis tools (e.g. GraphPad Prism, basic scripting in R/Python) Familiarity with mass spectrometry methods (LC-MS, GC-MS) is a plus Previous involvement in manuscript preparation or authorship of peer-reviewed publications
The estimated base salary range for this role is $107,000 - $143,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses. Seniority level
