Job Description Summary
The Audio Visual (AV) Technician assists with the setup, operation, and breakdown of audiovisual equipment to support classrooms, in-person meetings and virtual events. The AV Technician provides AV support for audiovisual systems, including projectors, sound systems, video displays, and virtual conferencing platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, and escalates complex issues to senior staff as needed. The AV Technician provides real-time support and facilitation for routine and high-profile events, including College-Wide Forum (CWF) and Board of Trustees (BOT) meetings. The technician maintains AV equipment functionality, performs routine maintenance under guidance, and follows established operational procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required. Minimum of 3 years of experience in audiovisual support, AV technical services, or event production. (1 year with an associate's degree). Associate's degree in information technology, audiovisual technology, or a related field is preferred and may substitute for 2 years of required experience. Experience setting up and operating AV equipment, including projectors, sound systems, and video conferencing tools, is highly desirable. Experience supporting live or virtual events is a plus. Industry certifications such as AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist or Extron AV Associate preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES Assist in the setup, operation, and breakdown of audiovisual equipment for classrooms, meetings, and college events, including projectors, microphones, speakers, video displays, and conferencing systems. Provide AV support for high-profile in-person and virtual meetings and events, including College-Wide Forum (CWF) and Board of Trustees (BOT) meetings. Provide technical support for AV-related issues in classrooms and event spaces, escalating complex problems to senior staff as needed. Provide real-time technical support and post-event follow-up to ensure successful execution and continuous improvement. Support routine AV installations and maintenance under the guidance of senior technicians, including cable management, equipment testing, and software updates. Monitor and maintain daily functionality of AV systems; promptly report and document equipment issues. Assist with setup and support for virtual and hybrid meetings and events using Zoom and Microsoft Teams platforms. Provide support for high-profile college events such as Board of Trustees meetings, College Wide Forum, and campus-wide events. Maintain accurate records of equipment use, maintenance activities, and inventory updates. Follow established AV operational procedures, including equipment checkout and room readiness protocols. Deliver responsive and courteous customer service to faculty, staff, and students requesting AV support. Assist in training and supervising student workers as assigned. Participate in internal training to develop technical skills and stay informed about college AV standards. Perform other related duties as assigned to support audiovisual operations and events.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of audiovisual systems and components, including projectors, microphones, speakers, video displays, and conferencing technologies. Knowledge of video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex) and best practices for supporting virtual and hybrid meetings and events. Knowledge of standard AV setup procedures, cable types and connections, and signal flow. Knowledge of safety procedures and basic troubleshooting practices for AV equipment. Ability to identify common issues in classroom and event AV environments and methods for addressing them. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in real-time during live events or meetings. Ability to follow established procedures and escalate issues appropriately. Ability to provide courteous and professional customer service to a diverse campus community. Ability to work independently and collaboratively under the direction of senior AV staff. Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure during live events. Ability to coordinate and support high-profile meetings and events.
Job Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions may be required to install, repair or troubleshoot AV-related technologies.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS Must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, but occasionally they required to lift and carry equipment that can weigh up to 50 pounds and setup computer equipment which involves pushing and pulling heavy carts, bending and crawling under desks for wire hookup and management. Ability to work evening shift, Evening 1:30pm - 9:30pm
