Behavioral Health Therapist II Job Responsibilities: Assesses and diagnoses mental health and/or substance use disorders through a bio/psycho/social department-specific evidenced based assessment identifying patient and family goals and needs. Integrates assessment using information related to cultural, clinical, ethnic, age and other factors into the plan of care. Provides a range of therapeutic interventions, psycho-educational programming and behavioral interventions (when indicated) to assist the patient/family in achieving the goals and objectives of the individualized service plan. Provides care management to ensure that the patient and family receive and are subsequently referred to appropriate healthcare and community resources to optimize treatment/intervention outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications: Education:
Master's Degree, Ph.D., PsyD, EdD in Mental Health, Social Work, Counseling, Substance Use Disorders or Behavioral Healthrelated field. Experience : Two years of experience in mental health/substance use disorder treatment, psychoeducational programming including targeted, evidencebased interventions (crisis intervention, trauma, and integrative therapies). Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association within 3 months of hire. Crisis Prevention Institute within 6 months of hire. Licensure:
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), or Licensed Substance Abuse Professional (LSATP).
Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual in Spanish Comfortable working in integrated behavioral health and collaborative care settings. Skilled in utilizing screening tools (e.g., PHQ-9, GAD-7), engaging in warm handoffs, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support coordinated, whole-person care. Possess clinical insight into family systems and relational dynamics, with the ability to navigate complex support structures to promote resilience and emotional wellness. Strong documentation and clinical assessment skills aligned with Virginia Medicaid standards. Can confidently facilitate psychoeducational programming tailored to diverse groups and life experiences.
