About Children’s Law Center
Established in 1989, Children’s Law Center, Inc. (CLC) is a unique nonprofit law firm
that protects the rights of children and youth—so they can grow into adulthood in
safe, healthy ways. Through direct legal assistance, policy reform, and community
education, CLC advocates for young people across Ohio and Kentucky. We provide
services in the justice system, education system, child-welfare system, and beyond.
CLC is hiring two attorneys to staff our Lexington office (as two staff members are transitioning out of their roles). The
two new attorneys will work together as CLC’s Lexington-based team and these positions are based in our Lexington
Office. There may be travel in Kentucky for cases/presentations in surrounding counties, as well as travel to our
headquarters in Covington, Kentucky, once per month. Over time, CLC plans to grow this office further to increase

Position Description:
Children’s Law Center, Inc. (CLC) is seeking a strategic, experienced attorney to
help lead our Lexington office and help advance our mission across Kentucky. The person will play a
key leadership role, with responsibilities spanning direct legal services, community
education/outreach, partnership creation/management, policy advocacy, and office management.
This is a unique role with program-building opportunities and significant autonomy, for a person who
has an entrepreneurial spirit and wants to innovate and lead.
The position may be tasked to supervise a second attorney (to be hired alongside this position), as
well as interns, volunteers, and contract attorneys. CLC often partners with area law schools for
internship placements, including year-round.
Responsibilities: Leadership, Supervision, and Operations
Working with the Executive Director and the Deputy Director to lead and help shape CLC’s
Lexington office as it transitions and grows; develop and implement goals and annual plans for
the office.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the local bar, judges, court personnel,
community partners, and other appropriate individuals.
Represent CLC in coalitions, task forces, and local networks.
Supervise staff attorney, interns, and volunteers as needed – and any additional staff as the
office grows. Recruit, screen, train, and support new staff as needed.
Oversee contract attorney(s) affiliated with CLC’s Lexington Office (currently one contract to
open in Louisville).
Conduct and/or participate staff/organizational meetings as appropriate.
Develop and implement an annual plan to manage operational functions of CLC’s Lexington
Office, including information technology, fiscal management, service requests, data
collection, file management, and office management.
Legal Services
Ensure high-quality legal advice, representation, and pro-se guidance from CLC’s Lexington
office. Represent youth in courts, schools, and administrative proceedings. Provide
representation, consultation, referral, self-help materials, and guidance to those seeking
assistance.
Manage intake, oversee casework, and support staff attorney(s) and interns.
Maintain strong client relationships and work with families from diverse backgrounds.
Community Education/Outreach & Policy Advocacy
Lead community education and outreach efforts for CLC’s Lexington Office, including
developing presentations, attending community events, and creating educational handouts.
Engage in legal and policy research to support local and statewide advocacy goals. Support CLC’s
policy work by helping draft testimony, analyzing legislation, and participating in coalitions and
public education efforts.
Fundraising and Development Support
Work with the Executive Director, Deputy Director, and Advancement Director on fundraising
strategies and activities connected to the Lexington Office.
Contribute to grant proposals, relationship-building with funders, and reports for funders.
Required: J.D.; Kentucky bar admission or ability to waive in; excellent communication and
interpersonal skills; ability to multitask effectively; ability to thrive in different legal environments;
cultural competency; desire to work with community partners; strong skills in legal writing, public
speaking, and systems-level thinking; proven ability to build relationships with diverse
stakeholders—from community members to court personnel, elected officials, and legal
professionals; self-directed, highly organized, and comfortable with from a smaller office affiliated a
larger team in Covington.
Preferred: Previous family law, justice system, and/or education law experience; strong connections in
the Greater Lexington community; leadership experience, supervision experience, and more extensive
legal experience; experience working with different community partners and stakeholders;
demonstrated desire to support public interest practice; an entrepreneurial drive and deep
commitment to your community.
Compensation & Benefits: Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Employer-supported
health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance. 403(b) retirement plan with employer contribution.
20 days paid time off annually, plus 14 holidays.
