LEAD MEDICAL CODER
The Georgia Business Center is a centralized administrative facility serving multiple Universal Health Services (UHS) facilities. We are currently expanding our operations to include Medical Coding and are searching for an experienced Lead Coder to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating solutions for medical coding, compiling and validating technical information, updating records and databases and other administrative duties including providing coaching and counseling to other members of the centralized coding team. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail, an aptitude for working in a fast-paced environment and be proficient with all Microsoft Office applications. Prior leadership or supervisory experience required. Experience with Cerner, our new EMR, is helpful but not required. This is a fully remote position with equipment provided by the company.
Essential Job Duties:
Accurately abstracts clinical information from medical record documentation for inpatient, outpatient, and clinic records. Assigns appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnosis and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes based on documentation, identifies the principal diagnosis and secondary diagnosis for applicable DRG within defined timeframes. Queries the attending psychiatrists as appropriate seeking clarification regarding diagnosis/documentation. Performs coding prep steps and other related duties related to the coding process, following up on missing discharge diagnosis or documentation. Accurately verifies codes used by clinicians, inpatient and outpatient, for all professional fee charges which involves checking the chart for proper documentation related to the code billed on professional fee charges. Investigates incomplete/inconsistent documentation and communicates findings to appropriate departments. Provides additional feedback and ideas to improve completion and consistency. Mentors and trains the other coders on the team. Tracks and reports monthly coding productivity data. Participates in all UHS corporate APR-DRG and Medicare coding audits. Assists in mentoring new staff and facilitates their integration into the hospital

Participates in the development of educational and quality goals for the group that are consistent with goals and objectives of the hospitals served

Promotes collaboration with assigned hospitals and associated physicians

Provide support coding when a coder is absent or volumes warrant

Regroup for Key Pro and CBO DRG requests
*
Coordinates Audits as requested
*
Provides performance feed back to coders
*
Provide second opinions source for coders
Qualifications
Position Requirements :
Associate degree in Health Information Technology (or eligible) or Bachelor's degree in Health Information. Preference given to candidates with certification as an RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H. One to three years' experience inpatient and/or outpatient coding; behavioral health coding experience is preferred. Previous leadership and supervisory experience in a medical setting. Position requires above average computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of MedSeries4 and 3M Encoder is preferred. Work is extremely detailed and requires logical thinking & reasoning and ability to problem solve while maintaining a high accuracy rate to meet regulatory requirements and UHS corporate coding standards. Must be able to communicate professionally both in verbal and written forms. Coders must follow AHIMA's Standards for Ethical Coding and the UHS Corporate Compliance plan, with emphasis placed on the Billing/Coding section.
