Homebuilder Lending / Relationship Manager
is responsible for sourcing, originating, and managing relationships with key stakeholders in the real estate sector, including homebuilders, developers, and landowners. This role involves identifying loan opportunities, performing preliminary underwriting, and negotiating terms to ensure alignment with company strategy. The ideal candidate will possess strong networking skills, market intelligence, and a proactive approach to business development. The platform intends to enter new regions over time; however, initially would cover relationships on the West Coast, with particular focus on homebuilders based out of Utah. What you will do: Deal Sourcing & Origination: Identify and cultivate relationships with homebuilders, developers, and landowners to generate new business opportunities. Inherit and manage existing home builder relationships of the platform Source land, acquisition and development (A&D), and construction loan opportunities for both vertical and horizontal development. Lead outreach efforts in key submarkets and maintain an active presence in industry networks (e.g., ULI, NAHB, local builder associations). Monitor public records, MLS, and land brokerage activity to identify acquisition signals. Develop and maintain referral networks with real estate attorneys, brokers, bankers, and engineers. Manage a team of support staff of 3-5 individuals. Initial Screening & Evaluation: Perform preliminary underwriting to assess project feasibility and borrower qualifications. Coordinate with credit underwriters to determine deal sizing, structure, and risk assessment. Deal Structuring & Execution: Negotiate terms and conditions with prospective borrowers to ensure mutually beneficial agreements. Develop and present investment committee memos and term sheets in collaboration with credit and legal teams as appropriate. Act as the primary liaison for borrowers during due diligence and closing processes, ensuring clear communication and timely resolution of issues. Market Strategy & Intelligence: Monitor housing trends, absorption rates, pricing dynamics, entitlement processes, and competitive landscape in target markets. Provide feedback on underwriting guidelines and lending parameters based on market conditions and trends. Pipeline & CRM Management: Maintain detailed tracking of pipeline activity, lead status, and deal progress using CRM tools. Regularly report origination metrics and deal status to senior leadership to inform strategic decision-making. What you should have: Bachelor’s degree in finance, real estate, business administration, or a related field preferred. Proven experience in real estate finance, lending, or business development, particularly in homebuilder construction or development financing. Strong networking and relationship-building skills with a track record of successful deal sourcing. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to perform preliminary underwriting and assess project feasibility. Proficient in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong negotiation skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Knowledge of real estate market trends and dynamics is essential. A current Utah Principal Lending Manager license is helpful but not required (see Utah Code Ann. § 61-2c-206 (2)).
