El Camino Health Medical Network, a leading/growing physician organization and an affiliate of El Camino Health, is a California Medical Foundation and currently operates 23 community-based ambulatory care clinics and medical practices in Los Gatos, San Jose, Cupertino, and Mountain View. To accomplish this goal, El Camino Health Medical Network (ECHMN) has developed a healthcare network comprised of providers from El Camino Medical Associates (ECMA), San Jose Medical Group (SJMG), Urology Surgeons of Northern California, and other providers, with clinics in Cupertino, Los Gatos, Morgan Hill, Mountain View and San Jose, California. El Camino Health Alliance (IPA) was formed less than three years ago and is growing rapidly. El Camino Health Alliance now stands at over 180 members and is continuing to expand.

About the position:
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the Medical Network, including El Camino Medical Associates (ECMA) and San Jose Medical Group (SJMG) as well as the IPA, El Camino Health Alliance (ECHA). The CMO leads and supports physicians across the network, fostering a culture of clinical excellence, collaboration, and accountability. This role is responsible for driving improvements in clinical quality, patient safety, physician engagement, and care delivery innovation. The CMO ensures alignment between administrative and clinical operations and serves as a key liaison between employed providers, executive leadership, and system-level governance.
The CMO is responsible for leading quality improvement initiatives, promoting evidence-based practices, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA, state, and federal healthcare regulations. The CMO evaluates clinical innovations and advancements in outpatient and specialty care, providing strategic recommendations to enhance patient outcomes, efficiency, and physician performance. Serving as a key advisor to the CAO, Health System CMO and senior leadership, the CMO drives efforts that support physician engagement, care coordination, and alignment with the health system's overall clinical mission.
The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to enhancing the patient experience, with a focus on improving satisfaction through consistent, high quality, and patient-centered care. This individual will bring proven success in physician recruitment, ensuring the organization attracts and retains top clinical talent aligned with its mission and values. The CMO will be responsible for establishing clear and effective leadership structures at clinic sites to support accountability, high performance, and engagement. Operating with transparency and collaboration, the CMO must be a credible, trusted presence among both clinical and administrative teams and develop a culture of respect and continuous improvement.
Education & Certification MD or DO degree from an accredited institution. Board certification in an appropriate medical specialty. Active and unrestricted California medical license or eligibility to obtain. Master's degree in healthcare administration, public health, or related field preferred. Experience
Minimum of 10 years of clinical practice experience. At least 5 years of progressive leadership experience within a medical group, health system, or ACO environment. Demonstrated success in leading quality initiatives, physician alignment strategies, and regulatory compliance efforts. Salary range:
A reasonable starting salary expectation is between $400,000 and $450,000 based upon related/relevant experience and internal equity.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES/INFORMATION:
Clinical Leadership & Strategy
Develops and implements clinical strategies to improve quality, access, and efficiency of care delivery. Collaborates with executive leadership to shape organizational priorities, operational initiatives, and long-term planning. Guides the implementation of population health strategies and value-based care models. Quality, Safety & Compliance
Oversees quality assurance programs and clinical performance improvement initiatives. Ensures regulatory and accreditation compliance with all applicable standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS, NCQA). Champions a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Provider Engagement & Medical Staff Oversight
Leads physician leadership development, onboarding, peer review, and provider satisfaction initiatives. Facilitates provider performance evaluations and oversees clinical discipline or remediation when needed. Collaborates with HR on credentialing, privileging, and provider workforce planning. Operational Excellence
Partners with the COO and administrative teams to ensure clinical integration and operational efficiency across clinics and specialties. Provides medical leadership in the design and implementation of care delivery models, EMR optimization, and practice transformation. Contributes to budget planning and resource allocation related to clinical services. Stakeholder Relations
Represents the medical group in system-wide initiatives, joint ventures, and community partnerships. Serves as a physician liaison with health system leadership, payers, and regulatory agencies. Promotes alignment and communication across the medical network's divisions, including primary care, specialty care, and urgent care. Skills & Competencies
Strategic thinker with the ability to operationalize complex initiatives. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proven ability to lead and influence physicians and cross-functional teams. Environment
Hybrid administrative and clinical leadership role; majority of duties are non-clinical. May require occasional travel across network sites and participation in evening/weekend meetings.
