Target Annual Salary:
$140,000
Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
Summary:
Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration, the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Facilities and Services is responsible for providing leadership and management of the functional operations within the unit of Facilities and Services. Those operations include Enterprise Services (Building Services, Transportation, Waste & Recycling, Parking Operations); Capital Programs, Sustainment, Repair & Modernization Operations; Stores & Receiving; Grounds; Environmental Health & Safety; and shared Administrative Services staff. The Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities and Services and leads in the determination of policy, procedures, and improvements to the functionality of division operations, conducting regular meetings with unit leaders to implement and ensure best practices and to instruct them on changes regarding management, business operations and direction, budget, and other strategic plans.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Directly responsible for the determination of long-term capital improvements to the university and the sustainment, repair, maintenance and modernization of the university. Supervision of the Director of Construction who oversees the Construction Superintendent and the Steam and Power Plant Foreman, supervises trades consisting of: carpenters, painters, steam and power plant engineers, plumbers, and electricians, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning technicians in all areas of interior and exterior building repair, maintenance and modernization. Supervision of the facilities and services administrative staff who handle and oversee the accounting, payables, utilities, purchasing, property accounting, human resources, physical inventory and budgetary functions, providing administrative assistance to the Associate Vice Chancellor and various business reporting for all departments within this unit. Supervision of the Director of Facilities Operations whose Enterprise Services operation includes Building Services providing janitorial, waste and recyclable removal, campus-wide surplus disposal operation, as well as Event & Moving Support Services, Transportation and Waste Management, and Parking Operations. Coordination of requests as they relate and interact with all other departments as well as outside users of campus space. Leads in the planning and construction of all in-hour repair and maintenance projects. Supervises the Director of Construction and staff for larger deferred maintenance and capital construction projects including but not limited to: buildings, site improvements, utilities, and other improvements. Supervise the Grounds Superintendent whose staff maintains the exterior grounds operation year-round including snow removal, sidewalk, parking lot and road patching, summer plantings, trees, grass and shrubs. Working to build inclusive campus-wide sustainability efforts, working with students, faculty and staff to reduce utility costs, increase building operating efficiencies, reduce waste streams, and increase recycling. Reduce the campus carbon footprint and assist in making the UIS campus a more sustainable entity. Supervision of the campus wide Environmental Health and Safety Office. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or a related field
Strong project management background
Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible administrative experience in
architecture, engineering or related field.
Supervisory experience
Record of successful problem resolution
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional architect or engineer license, preferred.
