We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Associate Director of Innovation to lead a high-performing team focused on transforming the delivery of legal services through strategic innovation and technology. This role will oversee both legal product owners embedded within practice groups and specialists focused on AI and emerging technologies. The ideal candidate will have a background in law and legal technology, strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to translate business needs into actionable innovation strategies. As a trusted partner to both legal and business teams, the Associate Director will play a pivotal role in aligning innovation initiatives with firm-wide goals, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and driving sustainable, measurable change across the organization. Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Management Develop and execute innovation strategies aligned with firm-wide business objectives. Oversee a diverse portfolio of legal technology and AI initiatives, ensuring measurable impact and continuous alignment with evolving practice needs. Partner with firm leadership on long-term innovation planning and budget development. Team Development & Management Lead, coach, and mentor a multidisciplinary team including Innovation Managers, Counsel, and AI-focused specialists. Establish clear goals, foster a culture of experimentation and accountability, and support career development. Create scalable team structures and workflows to manage competing priorities effectively. Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Building Serve as a bridge between legal practice groups, IT, Finance, Change Management, Practice Management, Business Development, Infrastructure, Security & Network Operations, and Project Management. Build trusted relationships with partners, attorneys, and business leads to understand needs, gather requirements, and ensure product adoption. Communicate complex concepts in accessible ways to stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership. Governance & Operational Excellence Design and implement governance frameworks to assess, prioritize, and manage innovation initiatives. Define KPIs and success metrics to evaluate performance and ROI of innovation efforts. Monitor project health and ensure adherence to budgets, timelines, and quality standards. Legal Technology & AI Enablement Stay abreast of emerging legal technology and AI trends, assessing relevance and potential for firm adoption. Collaborating with Innovation Managers and technical leads to vet, pilot, and deploy new technologies. Foster a firm-wide mindset of digital transformation and innovation enablement. Budgeting & Planning Partner with senior leadership to develop annual budgets and fiscal planning for innovation initiatives. Manage and forecast resourcing needs across teams and projects, ensuring optimal allocation of time, talent, and tools. Communication & Executive Reporting Prepare high-level updates and briefings for senior stakeholders and firm leadership on key programs, challenges, and market intelligence. Represent the firm at industry conferences, vendor meetings, and legal innovation roundtables as needed. Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal background required. 5+ years of experience in legal technology, legal operations, or innovation leadership roles within a law firm or corporate legal department. Strong understanding of corporate legal practice areas (e.g., Private Funds, Private Credit, M&A, Finance, Capital Markets) and their unique technology needs. Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex stakeholder relationships. Deep knowledge of the legal technology landscape, including AI, workflow automation, knowledge management, and enterprise platforms. Strong business acumen with experience in budgeting, planning, and resource management. Proven ability to influence, inspire, and lead through change in a professional services environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; adept at presenting to executive and partner-level audiences. Proven track record of managing technology roadmaps, gathering requirements, and delivering user-centric solutions. This position will require physical presence in Proskauer’s offices on a regular basis (at least 3x per week, or more, if it becomes the policy of the Firm or as business needs require). The anticipated compensation for this position is $225,000-$275,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of factors, including but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
