POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Yacht Compliance Manager is a mid-level position responsible for implementing and maintaining compliance related activities within our fleet, under the guidance of the Director of Yacht Compliance / DPA. This includes the maintenance of the Company's management software platform, support to Captain's and senior crew through regular reporting, and the regular attendance onboard where appropriate.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Director of Yacht Compliance, work to maintain, implement and improve the Company's Safety Management System, implementation of the ISPS and MLC requirements onboard and ashore. Support the Company Health, safety, and Environmental Policy in all day-to-day activities. Oversee and provide support to the Yacht Compliance Administrator(s) while maintaining efficient workflows between Company and fleet. Work closely with the Yacht Document Administrator or Manager, to manage and efficiently maintain and track yacht documentation and certification, including filing and reporting. Review and propose updates of the SMS procedures to reflect revisions and/or new and upcoming regulations. Contribute clear and precise communication with company personnel and yacht crews, within dedicated teams, including within other departments. Assist DPA in investigations or reviews of onboard accidents and incidents and provide high level support using best practice and regulatory compliance as educational tools for yacht crew to prevent further occurrences. Work alongside Director of Yacht Compliance to identify training opportunities for crew of all levels. Coordinate and conduct internal mini/ISM audits as required within the fleet. Record and maintain accurate records of all compliance related activities within the Company, including but not limited to external survey schedules, internal audit attendance, inspections, incidents and reporting. Work with Technical Managers to identify strategies to enhance Company's SMS onboard and optimize technical management procedures onboard. Where applicable, assist with preparation of external surveys and inspections with Flag and Class in conjunction with Technical Managers. Member of the 24/7 Emergency Team. Actively take part in emergency preparedness drills and exercises where requested.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Travel to vessels as required and embrace opportunities to work in remote locations. Be fiscally responsible for travel-related expenses and reconciliation of receipts. Be familiar with specific management agreement policy on travel and travel approval processes. Attend conferences, boat shows, and other gatherings where necessary to enhance industry knowledge. Maintain currency with applicable industry regulations, codes, rules, and advisories. Promote FYS in the most professional manner.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Min 3-5 years of Industry experience in the compliance and technical fields. Always have the yacht owner and company best interest and willingness to raise internally to superiors where this is recognized to be absent in the management - both ashore and aboard of a yacht program, be cognizant of situations that appear to be outside of best practice from both a safety and financial aspect. Working knowledge of different flag state laws and regulations with a willingness to learn. Knowledge of industry culture, its high standards and client lifestyle preferrable. Ability to multi-task, stay organized and focused. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Adobe, and Microsoft Outlook. Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills. Excellent communication skills to liaise confidently and professionally with colleagues, clients, captains, and crew. Motivated and focused on career progression in the yachting industry, maintain strong problem-solving skills with a can-do attitude. Assist Technical Manager(s) and directors where and as needed, as requested.
