The successful candidate will enforce provisions of the International Property Maintenance Code and related codes and ordinances of all residential and commercial properties, assist with matters relating to rental housing, illegal signage, foreclosed properties, and vacant structures. The ability to use tact and knowledge of the code to ensure safe building standards are met, code compliance is ensured, and have their Certified MN Building Official License or will obtain within 12 months of employment are also required.

Expectations
POSITION SUMMARY Enforce provisions of the International Property Maintenance Code and City of Oakdale Code of Ordinances, and all related laws, codes and ordinances pertinent to the maintenance and compliance of all residential and commercial properties. Assist with matters relating to rental housing, illegal signage, foreclosed properties, and vacant structures. Conduct residential and commercial building inspections.
JOB DUTIES OR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
Work collaboratively with other staff to provide excellent and responsive public service Perform nuisance and property maintenance code inspections, zoning code inspections, and rental housing inspections promptly, accurately, and in a firm but fair manner Identify and inform property owners, managers, or other of specific code violations Maintain accurate records relating to property maintenance and rental housing Where cooperative measures have failed, invoke administrative citations and complaint summons to ensure correction of violations Work with the City Planner to address zoning code violations which includes bringing into compliance through variance and conditional use permit process. Investigate complaints involving matters of public health, sanitation, or substandard buildings, and take appropriate action to secure correction of problems Keep manager advised of significant information necessary for the satisfactory completion of the department's affairs Working knowledge of code enforcement principles, practices and methods as applicable to a municipal setting Conduct residential and commercial building inspections Represent the city in a courteous, responsive, and professional manner in all interactions. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience and training required.
Education Training at vocational school and related on-the-job experience in areas of building construction, architecture, code enforcement, or related field Experience Three (3) years' experience in municipal building inspections, code enforcement, housing, planning, public administration Trainings, Certificates, and Licenses Certified MN Building Official License or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment Valid driver's license with Minnesota driving privileges

Additional coverage may be purchased if you choose to do so. Short-Term Disability: Mutual of Omaha - The City offers pays the premium for this coverage which provides for up to 66.67% of your normal weekly pay, up to $400 for up to 12 weeks and is payable on the 8th day of disability. Long-Term Disability: Mutual of Omaha - The City offers pays the premium for this coverage which provides for up to 60% of your normal monthly pay, up to $3,000 per month and starts on the 90th day of disability.
