Overview
Under direct supervision of the provider or nursing leadership, performs a variety of nursing care functions within all aspects of Endoscopy. Assists physicians and RN with endoscopic procedures. Assists with pre/intra/post endoscopic care of the patient, including monitoring vital signs. Makes beds, cleans rooms, and serves as a runner for equipment during procedures. Properly positions patient pre and intra procedure. Selects correct endoscope and performs quality control check pre-procedure. Enters patient and procedure information into endoscopy report writing software. Handles and manages procedure accessory equipment. Supports airway via head positioning and performs oropharyngeal suctioning. Collects specimen and labels specimens with accuracy. Performs immediate post procedure endoscope pre-cleaning. Assembles and disassembles endoscopic instruments and related equipment. Cleans and processes equipment after procedures. Performs high level disinfection of endoscopes and accessories. Assists with other duties or projects as assigned.
Critical Information
Must have hands-on experience assisting with ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) and EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound) procedures. Experience with only EGD and colonoscopy is not sufficient. Cerification/Licensure Required: BLS. Must hold one of the following certifications: SGNA Certification, Certified Surgical Technologist, or Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Certification.
Education/Licenses Needed
High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. Graduation from an Accredited Medical Assistant Program, Surgical Technician Program, or Emergency Medical Technician training, preferred.
