Location:

Candidates must be located in these zones on Day 1 of employment. About This Role Software practice is evolving with powerful new AI capabilities. This role will help Atlassian redefine software practice in this AI-native world, working with talented designers across Atlassian’s software team-specific products to produce user-centered design solutions. The Principal Designer will collaborate with heads of design, product, and engineering to envision an AI-native software development lifecycle (SDLC), aligning Atlassian’s product portfolio. The ideal candidate will have experience designing tools for developers and/or SDLC processes, as well as AI-powered features or products. They should have a blend of technical depth and systems thinking, with a keen eye for design details. This role reports directly to the Head of Design for Software Collection. Responsibilities
Envision the future of AI-powered software development Collaborate with senior engineers and product managers in sprints, workshops, and daily design tasks Drive alignment with executive stakeholders Work with designers and researchers to develop and refine design solutions Create and promote a vision for supporting software teams with AI capabilities Align ongoing design work to form a coherent software-tool portfolio Deliver high-quality, outcome-focused design artifacts Deepen understanding of Atlassian’s developer ecosystem and influence design decisions Foster cross-functional collaboration and trust through clear communication Qualifications
10-12+ years in product design, ideally with developer-centric tools (IDEs, SCM) Experience designing AI-native experiences Expertise in system and interaction design, prototyping, delivering excellent user experiences Ability to collaborate, align stakeholders, and influence product strategy Effective communicator, capable of presenting and defending design choices Mentorship skills to elevate junior designers Compensation Base pay ranges (in USD):
