The Director/Sr Director – Data Center Design Engineering is a strategic and technical leader responsible for the end-to-end design, upgrade, and delivery of global data center technical capacity, emphasizing cost-effective engineering, strategic asset repositioning, and lifecycle optimization. This role leads multidisciplinary teams across electrical, mechanical, and controls engineering to deliver highly available, energy-efficient, and scalable infrastructure supporting hyperscale, AI, and enterprise workloads. The responsibilities include: Design and Engineering Leadership Serve as the senior engineering authority across the full data center lifecycle—from concept and design through construction, commissioning, upgrades, and operational transitions. Lead electrical engineering teams in delivering power and cooling infrastructure optimized for high reliability and cost efficiency. Ensure electrical systems align with high-availability design philosophies and comply with standards. Develop standardized design templates, specifications, and playbooks for global consistency. Strategic Planning and Optimization Drive infrastructure upgrade planning and execution to meet evolving demands. Guide asset repositioning, including capacity conversion and sustainability retrofits. Evaluate emerging technologies for performance and cost benefits. Cost and Value Engineering Oversee efforts to reduce CapEx and OpEx through system innovation and vendor negotiations. Collaborate on TCO evaluation, site selection, and master planning. Cross-Functional Collaboration Support pre-sales and customer-specific requirements, participating in RFPs. Partner with construction and operations teams for constructible and maintainable designs. Performance Monitoring and Reporting Establish KPIs, drive improvements, and report project health to stakeholders. Leadership and Team Building Lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability. Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering (PE license or advanced degree preferred), 10+ years in data center electrical/MEP roles, and 5+ years of management experience. Deep expertise in electrical and mechanical systems, knowledge of global standards, and excellent communication skills are essential. Travel to sites and conferences is required.
