Location: Bohemia
Salary: $20/hr
Schedule: Per-Diem, up to 15 hours per week
The Opportunity
The Family Peer Advocate will use personal experience parenting a child with special needs to support parents and help them keep their child at home and within their community.
Responsibilities
Meet with families according to their scheduling needs
Increase awareness of and enhance family strengths
Advocate for fair, responsive, family-driven services and systems
Assist families in rediscovering and reconnecting to natural community supports
Promote effective parent-professional partnerships
Address barriers to full service participation
Empower families to make informed decisions and advocate collaboratively
Prepare and accompany families to meetings to ensure their voice is heard
Conduct groups to connect families and reduce isolation
Link to and provide workshops to enhance parenting skills
Complete documentation in compliance with agency and funding regulations
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Family Peer Advocate Certification preferred
Intermediate computer skills
Experience parenting a child with special needs
Valid and clean driver's license
