The Accountant IV will work with Payroll Services and Tax Compliance staff to perform reconciliations of payroll tax withholdings and prepare/review all federal, state and local payroll tax returns. They will oversee the annual W-2 process, working with appropriate areas throughout the year to ensure accuracy and timely filing. The position will serve as the lead administrator for the Glacier tax compliance system, working with international employees and students to ensure accurate withholding and reporting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include reconciling all tax withholdings in daily pay runs to tax deposits made by third-party payroll processors, using the IRS EFTPS system to timely deposit taxes not handled by third-party processors, working with third-party payroll processors to review and monitor timely preparation of all federal, state, and local payroll tax returns, overseeing preparation, distribution, and filing of annual Forms W-2, serving as lead administrator for Glacier tax compliance system, preparing and filing annual federal Form 1042 and related 1042-S statements, performing periodic survey of employee worksites for tax withholding compliance, responding to notices and audits from IRS or other agencies, developing new policies and guidance relating to payroll tax issues, assisting employees and business staff with tax questions, and other payroll-related projects as assigned. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of tax and immigration rules related to payments to nonresident aliens, previous experience with Workday HR, and competencies such as ability to perform tasks independently and confidentially, problem-solving, working under pressure, multitasking, aptitude for figures, prioritization, payroll tax research, strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
