Job Description:
As a Senior GIS Architect, you will lead the end-to-end implementation and configuration of ArcGIS Enterprise across both Staging and Production environments. This role requires deep expertise in ESRI technologies, systems architecture, and enterprise integrations to build a robust, high-availability GIS platform. You will be responsible for designing system architecture, performing installations, and automating deployments while ensuring compliance with industry best practices for security, scalability, and data integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and define architecture for ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3+ for both Staging and Production environments Specify network, server, and storage configurations to support high availability and environment isolation Review and advise on licensing, hardware requirements, user types, and ESRI configurations Configure ArcGIS components including Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, Web Adaptor, and ArcGIS Object Store Plan and implement SQL Server enterprise geodatabases for both environments Establish backup, disaster recovery, and failover strategies Perform installation and initial configuration of ArcGIS Enterprise on Commonwealth servers Create detailed architectural diagrams identifying servers, ports, and database integrations Automate deployment and maintenance tasks using tools such as Python (ArcPy) and PowerShell Develop and optimize geospatial services, applications, and database structures Define and recommend user roles and account strategies for administration, service access, and user authentication Provide technical mentorship to GIS analysts on enterprise GIS administration and monitoring practices Required Skills, Experiences, Education, and Competencies:
Expert-level experience with ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3 or higher Proven experience designing high-availability GIS environments in multi-server, multi-database architecture Strong knowledge of ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, Web Adaptor, and ArcGIS Object Store Proficiency in SQL Server geodatabase design and management Experience with disaster recovery planning and backup strategies for enterprise GIS Strong scripting skills using Python (ArcPy) and PowerShell for automation Familiarity with security protocols, firewall and port configurations related to GIS architecture Ability to create comprehensive documentation including system diagrams and environment specifications Strong communication and mentoring skills for collaboration and knowledge sharing with GIS staff Ability to work independently and deliver results in a fully remote environment
The hourly range for roles of this nature are $50.00 to $70.00/hr. Rates are heavily dependent on skills, experience, location, and industry.
