GIS Technical Support involves assisting users with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and hardware. Support technicians diagnose and resolve issues related to spatial data management, system performance, and application functionality. They provide technical guidance, ensure system security and stability, and help optimize GIS tools to meet organizational needs. The role requires strong knowledge of GIS platforms, databases, and scripting, along with excellent problem-solving and communication skills to deliver effective technical assistance to end-users and support teams. This role involves resolving complex user issues, supporting system maintenance, and ensuring the integrity and security of NATO’s GIS operational environment. This position is located in The Hague, The Netherlands. Key Responsibilities Respond to, diagnose, and resolve Tier 2/3 support tickets related to GIS software and hardware issues. Handle escalated and complex support cases, performing root cause analysis and implementing effective solutions. Provide expert assistance on GIS applications, databases, and spatial data management. Collaborate with Tier 1 support and other IT teams to escalate and resolve complex issues. Perform system configuration, integration, and customization as required. Conduct proactive system checks and optimize GIS solutions. Assist in the deployment of updates, patches, and new GIS features. Maintain comprehensive records of issues, resolutions, system configurations, and procedures. Document support procedures, resolutions, and system configurations. Provide training and technical guidance to Tier 1 support team and end-users. Maintain technical knowledge of the latest GIS technologies and best practices. The following are requirements of the GIS Support Analyst. US Citizen Active DoD Secret Clearance Active U.S. Passport Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or related field. 5+ years of experience with ArcGIS Software. Strong understanding of spatial data management and database systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle). Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of scripting languages like Python, SQL, PowerShell, or others. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills and customer service orientation. Well-organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative with a proactive approach to client service. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and SharePoint. The following are desired capabilities and experience of the GIS Support Analyst. Proven experience supporting complex GIS environments in a military, governmental, or NATO setting. Experience with Enterprise GIS systems and services. Knowledge of network and system administration. Certifications like GIS Professional (GISP) or related IT certifications.
